ITs totally not true that normal committee members dont have power - being on a committee does mean you have to do whatever the chair of it says (within reason of course *winks*) but you have a genuine input into how things could be done. The last 30 minutes of my last ever barcom meeting was spent with everyone on the committee firing ideas and past experiences @ the bar steward and him quietly noting down what everyone said.
