ITs totally not true that normal committee members dont have power - being on a committee does mean you have to do whatever the chair of it says (within reason of course *winks*) but you have a genuine input into how things could be done. The last 30 minutes of my last ever barcom meeting was spent with everyone on the committee firing ideas and past experiences @ the bar steward and him quietly noting down what everyone said.

As for senior tutors picking college positions - no way!

A lot less than I have heard say "I will vote for him" he goes to the rugby club. Most of the people who vote are totally clueless, to be honest I would like it if they stripped the democracy element from the JCR and got the senior tutors to pick positions.
