Racism at university

Im worried about people not making an effort to become friends with me because I'm asian.

I dont know if I sound stupid. But I just wanted to know if there is racism at universities.

EDIT: I dont mean asian as in chineese I mean asian as in pakistani, Bengali ,Indian etc

I've never heard of racist incidents at the two Unis I've been to. That said, it surely must have happened some time or another.

there's abit of discrimination in everyone......so a yes/no
maybe scottish vs english and scottish vs muslims and scottish vs chinese but that's about it I think

There might be, but there'll be plenty of non racist people as well, so it'll be fine.
I haven't witnessed anything in my first year.

There are loads of people at a university, so you shouldn't have a problem making friends :smile:

I used to go to a school where there were a lot of Asian students, and they used to ALL just socialise with other Asians. People want to be friends with you, but if you only socialise with your race, then you are creating the problems. If you are open to friendships, and don't stick in a little group of the same race, then yes, you will make friends who aren't Asian.

If you're fine in the rest of life uni wont be any different.

Sure you get the odd real racist and if you piss people off you get people who bring race into it without thinking but i highly doubt you will get anyone shunning you because you're asian. I mean how many racial supremesists can one uni have?
If you're Asian, don't worry.
Racism is everywhere. But is not in everyone.
