Yeh and then they go and take 4 science subjects at A-level.
Precisely. Cambridge probably like to know that their science students can string a sentence together and their arts students can add up, hence the existence of such matriculation requirements.

Ah, right. There isn't. I'm just saying that people automatically assume that you are more intelligent than me because you have A*s and I don't, it's just the way people's minds work.
Well you seem pretty talented in philosophy.

No probs, just being honest!

You got good grades - even for oxbridge, those are certainly respectable grades.

BTW: Which subject are you going to be applying for?

I am going to be applying for Physics!

I may apply for a joke, a free holiday would be worth it. I'd persuade a few friends to go too.

I think you'd stand a good chance. The interviewers like people who think for themselves. Its the parrot fashion people they weed out despite the fact they get straight A*/A's.

According to this Oxford don't have any formal matriculation requirements anymore, they do expect "good standards of literacy of numeracy", which it goes on to say includes a language other than English. But I doubt it's set in stone, and they certainly don't give the impression that they're as strict about it as Cambridge are.

you must also make sure that you have a very good reference. My brother got a B in gcse history and his referree had to explain that he lost marks because his arguments were too subtle and complex for the criteria on the mark scheme at GCSE level. He now has an ABB offer from Jesus, Cambridge to read history

I think I'm not talented in anything. I've never been better than everybody all my life in any subject (well maybe in some things) and I'm too lazy to work hard now, so I'll probably miss out

Maybe that's it. But knowing me I'll wait to find it, which isn't the right thing to do.
