Instead: disposable menstrual cup

Hello Ladies,

So I've been looking into alternative menstrual products for a while, after learning about the Moon Cup. I was afraid to commit to the cost, so I was at the local drug store and saw Instead--it is a disposable menstrual cup. I bought the box immediately and am on day 2 of using them. I'm sold! I'll go through the pros and cons

Pros:
Lasts longer than tampons
No risk of toxic shock syndome
Easy to carry around-no one will know what it is
Internal so no diaper-like feeling like with pads
can't feel it
You can have sex with it in

Cons:
messy to take out
not cheaper than tampons/pads
may slide out of some women
not good for women uncomfortable with putting fingers inside

I found it in my drugstore. I don't know whether it's readily available in the UK but you can certainly order it online.

I'm sticking to Instead! I'm also ordering reuseable cotton pads from Lunapads (www.lunapads.com) to complement the Instead. I feel so liberated!

But I don't have periods anymore, so they're all a bit pointless now! hehe.

 Why's that? You're not over 50 are you?

I love my mooncup because I am the girl that never remembers to bring any tampons with her and always has to use the vending machine in the toilets. The only bad side I found yesterday is that it's impossible to remove a mooncup when you've had a few too many drinks.

I didn't know what a mooncup was, so I just looked on the website. I can't believe I've never heard of it before - it looks amazing. I think I might try it!
Although I don't have many periods 'cos of my polycystic ovaries.
Uhh, I'll just stick to pads for now.

I don't have many because of my implant, but that's another reason a mooncup is so good for me. No matter how heavy, how light, how long my period has lasted or anything else the mooncup will be ok. It's definitely worth buying, if you are considering it have a search for mooncup and there are some very informative threads.

But can you have sex with the mooncup?

She has a contraceptive implant, which affects your cycle. Quite a few people are lucky and no longer get periods at all, others like me just get messed up.

You can't wear a mooncup for sex.

I finally went out and bought my mooncup yesterday. Couldn't immediatly find it in boots, so asked some guy about my age where they were, then had to explain what they were. His expression was priceless!

So do you girls think the Moon Cup is worth it? I'm afraid to order and pay and then find out I don't like it. The Instead cup is really easy...it doesn't have the same shape as the MoonCup at all...no stem and it sits up very high. I've heard you can feel the mooncup; you certainly can't feel Instead. Also...you can actually reuse the Instead once before throwing it away, it's just not recommended by the company b/c they want you to buy more!

I have used my mooncup on 2 periods now and not once used a tampon since. They are just sat in my draw and I have no use for them. Mooncups are the way forward.
