Chantry court is not on campus as such... it is just opposite the back gate into uni... you are very close to uni which is good (college lane I mean)...
The accomodation is usually occupied by international students I think, but i dont know about the living conditions... I think its a band B which is good

nah i refused to stay in roehyde, i told them im a million miles from home and this is where you put me? no no no.
they said they would allocate me to a different place eventually so i accepted the place and wrote a letter to the head of accomodation explaining my situation etc and he sorted it out for me before i had to move in
im special

When I was there Chantry Court was mainly for international and mature students.............

But Herts are NOTORIOUS for having problems with overbooking people for accomodation and therefore might over look this if they're desperate for rooms. When I was in my first year I had to share with someone else in a one person room for nearly 2 months until I could have a room of my own...............and they were so overbooked they had people sleeping in sleeping bags opn the floor in the sports hall on Hatfield campus and the local hotels were choc-a-bloc with students.......................................this wasn't just a one time occurance as it happened on all my other years too...........

This is mostly because of the herts promise to give acocmodation to people regardless of how far/close their home is.....................so people who live in Hatfield have as much chance of getting accomdodation as people who haev to relocate half way down the country

You r right!! i heard bout that from my neighbour who studied in herts when you were there... they have done it this year again , one of my mates is living as far as opposite the police station, apparently there is a place called "dehavilland house" there for students!!! think of the morning journey everyday to college lane :s-smilie::frown:

no, usually it all gets sorted out before christmas, or just slightly after. If people don't turn up and drop out their rooms are then offered to people in order of need first.

They sorted mine my xmas but only because my mum threatened to call the local paper. Personally I think the whole accomodation procss at herts is a joke. You're particularly screwed if its your insurance. Thats because they don't send you the accomodation forms until AFTER results day if its your insurance and you decide to go there, so if all the rooms have been allocated you may have to share..........................

also, people who live close have as much chance of getting accomodation as those who live far away................in my 1st year there were people from Hatfield staying in halls. I'm all for living the uni experience and wanting to stay in halls, but if you live in the surrounding area e.g. watford, st albans, hemel etc preference should be given to those that don't live wthin travelling distance..............and only then should people who live close get a chance........no offence to anyone who lives close!!!

The problem is, is that accomodation is an issue EVERY year at Herts and they don't do anything about it! It works for most London uniu's so why can't they give it a go. One of my mates was from Swansea and applied for Roberts Way and Telford as her 1st and 2nd choice. She ended up having to share a 2 person room in Roberts way even though she didn't want to and hadn't requested to.......................and the girl she lived with was a nightmare.

i totally agree with what JackieS has said... people who are likely to get accomodation are those who choose herts as first choice or people who already have results .i.e. gap year students and they dont give any considerations as per how far you have come from.. I think they need to build more halls since their intake goes up every year!!!

I never even knew there was a "dehavilland" house lol, i asked aload of my other mates as well and they were all confused.. Just like JackieS said, they usually sort them out during the first semester because people decide they want to leave uni or they just drop out or something.. Well I warned my mate who landed up there, I told him to apply early but the poor lad thought i was joking lol! ah well
