Why don't you ask the appropriate admissions tutor. I am sure (s)he would be willing to answer your question. At the end of the day any other replies are speculation. Only Cambridge know how much they would value a critical AEA paper.

All I know is that when I had my interview and mentioned that I was doing an English AEA the interviewer said they were strongly encouraged.
Actually, I was not speculating. But I agree, ask the tutor - that's what I did. In fact, I asked 11 different admissions tutors from both Cambridge and Oxford. They didn't say an AS level in Critical Thinking was a waste of time, but all but one said they'd prefer another 'hard' subject at AS instead.
