WHAT! Who is your referee! They should know pretty much exactly what to write before you ask them to do it! Anyway I think it would probably just go on about you and start with you qualities and not be addressed to someone, that would be a letter not a reference.

My reference doesn't start 'dear sir/madame'.

They just copy and paste it into the 'reference' section of the online UCAS form, under sections for each of my courses, and then a general reference from my tutor, all under the name of the headmistress. They just launch straight into it, i.e. "In English, Mata is bla bla bla..."

my referee asked me how to start the reference, i.e. whether it should start with "Dear Sir or Madame" or starting directly?

Anybody an idea?


It's not a letter - it doesn't need to be addressed.

Well, I'm not from the UK, neither is my referee, so he's not used to provide references...
