Good posts, zoraster. I wasn't really trying to attack the American system and perhaps some of my points were misguided. What really irked me was SlyPie's attitude towards salsa's "pretty bad" SAT results - no one can say that to someone and think they're not being condescending, especially not someone in the 95th percentile.

I was just being honest..it's not about being condescending. I'm not going to lie and I say I don't think it's bad. (If anyone else wants to lie, feel free.) I think my own scores are bad and you can be 'condescending" (or honest) all you want. I already know my scores are bad; i could have done better if I had prepared. I won't lie simply because someone thinks I'm being "mean," and anyone who believes that that is being "condescending" or "purposely arrogant' is being ridiculous. Honesty is often uninvited.

Hmm, ok. Might I suggest that you could have been more tactful? I'm not suggesting you should say, "Wow, those results are really good!" if you don't think so. For my own part, I wouldn't even know what is a good SAT result. :p:

Hardy har har.Well, if you read my other posts, you'll realize I'm usually blunt.

Well, I'll give you a hint, Harvard's average SAT score probably lies in the 98th or 99th percentiles.

Edit:I don't mind "arguing" with you....

considering I know I'll be victorious.

Yeah, I have read other posts of yours on TSR. I assumed you just liked being rude to people. I admit I could be misinterpreting your frankness, and I'm sorry if that's all it is, but I'm sure many people would interpret it that way.

As for Harvard's percentiles, they take the best students in the country... and from abroad! It doesn't seem right to me to consider anyone who is below Harvard standard as not being bright.

EDIT: I'm not worried about "winning" any argument with you. When an argument descends into becoming personal there can be no winner. I've done it before and I'd rather not again.

Yeah. i did pretty well in my biology class and my teacher suggested I take them before my knowledge waned sicne it's a somewhat memorization heavy subject.

As for the 95th percentile thing, I think it's okay if you're unhappy with your score, but people objected because you told someone else his score was crappy. Admittedly, it's not really ivy league standard, but tact is appreciated. Even if you are blunt, you don't have to also comment every time someone has performed below expectations.

By the way, www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/about/news_info/cbsenior/yr2003/pdf/table_3b.pdf has recent percentile scores for the old test.
guys, chill.

I probably started this thing off, but slypie: I'm not that bothered if you say my 89th percentile score is crap, I'm too lazy to take offence.
Zoraster: liked your post on American education.
Sbailey: thanks for defending me and my SAT scores.
And I actually like the education system in America, or else I wouldn't have bothered completing the n pages of aplication material for Harvard. what annoyed me a bit was that I applied early and was put on a wait list for about 6 months. Just though it's be nice to find out sooner either yes or no.

Argument becoming personal? We're talking about an SAT score percentile here, not someone's appearance or anything...

I don't see how commenting on a person's SAT score is being "personal." Seriously, I am also very facetious in many of my posts and it seems some people on here are too dense to realize it. I have however, received scattered applause for my sarcasm and my honesty.

When did I say anyone below Harvard's standard was not bright? Honestly, you are completely misconstruing my posts. Stop jumping to conclusions. I said that 89th percentile was bad, that's it. Plain and simple...why over-analyze my comments?

I also mentioned that SAT scores are not a meaningful indication of a person's intelligence.

And when you say that I enjoy being "rude" to people: sometimes I make comments in a facetious manner, but to ones pertaining academics, etc...It's called honesty. I indubitably apologize if people can't be honest without seeming "rude"......(insert: sarcasm...just to make it evident to some people on here)

Sorry to the original poster who wants us to calm down, but these guys can't interpret my comments accurately and are way too defensive, well mainly just bailey. They ( or he) remind(s) me of females. (Oh great, here we go again with the sexist talk after that last comment.)

Edit: I also had to clarify that i was being SARCASTIC about winning arguments. I honestly give up...seriously. People who don't get sarcasm at all, unless i state it and spell it out for them.......are really missing something in their heads (now THAT is being personal!)

Comment "every time": since when is one time 'every time'?

Edit: the percentiles seem inflated on that link.

lol, I guess you misinterpreted my post. I didn't think our interchange had become personal yet, but I can tell when a convo is heading that way. I only said I wanted to avoid that. As for the rest of your post, if you're so secure in your innocence why are you defending yourself so vehemently?

Btw, if calling me dense is what you would call "honesty", you have a lot of learning to do. I see you're already trying to make it personal. Anyway, I'm off to bed now, it's rather later here than it is in the US.

Yes by 8 hours...

And yes, obviously I was making it personal, considering I said I was at the very end of my post...when I said that "THATis becoming personal." lollllllll

Edit: yada yada..people always say "if youre so innocent, then why are you defending yourself": so if an accused is innocent, then he/she shouldn't defend him/herself and thus get convicted? Your logic is awfully flawed....

It's slightly more obvious now that you have edited your post to add it, yes. lol

Well I edited it before you replied. It isn't my fault you are too sexually eager to respond to my luring posts.

Calm down, me? MEEEEEEEEEEE? HOW DARE YOU HOW DARE YOU OFFEND ME LIKE THAT.

I'm calm and collected.

There is a God! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Slap me silly and paint me red...

Me, never! I would never dream of having a final go at you Steven Bailey...

All sensitive people should avoid replying to my posts.

Mate I would leave it, I neg repped her for something a while back and she went off on one and called me a racist and said that I pmed her saying something like she should go back to eating rice in paddy fields or something along those lines, which was totally untrue, mods agreed and deleted them

hehehe you neg repped me in the "Oriental thread"..when I mentioned my mother is from the Orient...way to pick the posts; way to pick the posts.

OH mods deleted all of our convo because it was totally irrelevant to the thread...I actually didn't mean for them to seriously ban you--I just was just having a laugh because I somewhat remember you and your sobriety in everything-- although maybe they should now, stalker.

You have pmed me before I think, a long long time ago? I'm unsure--just like I said you geek's avatar reminds me. You're the one who said you meant to neg rep me for awhile right? Um...who the f*ck are you again and how do you know me?

Thanks for clearing that up, hon.

You weren't even debating with me. I have no idea who you are. You just read my posts and follow me. I have never debated with you. Ask others in REAL debate threads okay. Frankly commenting on my opinion about the SAT percentile rank is not a "debate"....it's called an opinion.

Enough said.

Ok your post just got deleted. Maybe I should delete mine because it has yours in it?

Seriously though, who are you?

I swear you keep following me, reading my posts, telling me you hate me, etc...but I honestly don't know who you are?

I neg repped you and said i don't like what you write, I don't follow your posts, unfortunately some of them happen to be in the only forums that i read (the oxbridge ones), I don't actively check where and what you have posted elsewhere. I can hardly call that stalking, indeed if and when one or both of us get bored of these boards I doubt we'll ever 'meet' again. When have I ever said I hate you?

Hate/ dislike my posts..same thing really. I put my heart and soul into these things and god, it just tears me up when someone disses my posts. They're my little babies, threads of my existence and the only lasting remnants of my soul.

It just seems that whenever you do comment on my posts, you're commenting on me personally though. And I don't recall ever debating or discussing with you about anything, except about "how you dislike my posts" blah blah blah.
