Not to deplete teachers in any way, but i would say that throughout my own personal academic experiences, all i'd need is for someone to hand me the material that is needed in order to revise, then i'd still of passed my Gcse's and As and hopefully my A-level exams next week.. the internet is an amazing thing for exam structure tips etc.. :yep:

yes but if we're talking about medicine that just aint gonna work, maybe for law but not medicine

Oh ok, i never studied a science based subject beyond GCSE so i guess i wouldn't know, but for Humanities at least my argument has relevance, are there alot of times when teachers play a massive supportive role in Science based subjects and in medicine then? :yep:

that I agree with, you can self teach those types of subjects and interpret them how you will, but as for science based subjects and medicine especially, experience counts for a lot and that gets passed down and benefits students a textbook can only get you so far

Good point, i would never doubt the importance of both professions, they're and always have been.. both highly important for the goodwill of society.. would you agree that they're the top 2 professions out there.. in terms of relevance/impact/reputation?

Possibly. I'd argue a lot of public services in general are highly important, like police and firemen and so on. They're among the top 10, but it's difficult to say if they're the most important. Research scientists also make the top grades.

Yes, not all lawyers are bad and they play an important role in society - but your qoute just illustrates why lawyers are regarded somewhat negatively and medicine therefore as a better profession (from a public viewpoint).

Haha, true, I suppose. :p:

Medicine in general, but the top end of the Legal profession is of greater prestige.

Medicine. You can't find it in clearing. Law, on the other hand, still has about 400 and something places seeking applicants at this time.

Plus medicine offers a lot more job security, recession or not.

It's sad how warped people's views on doctors are.

Medicine is definitely the better profession. Doctors make people better, lawyers just screw people !

What about all of the lawyers that fight for human rights?

what about teachers then? arguably more important than both, you need teachers to actually make doctors and lawyers in the first place obviously

Hey, just wanted your opinions on what profession (Law or Medicine) is regarded as better or having more authority over the other?
Whilst studying Law at A2, i found that they compete all the time without knowing, through statute, common law etc.

Most people have told me Medicine? Come on you Law reps, fightback!

Anyone can be a doctor or lawyer nowadays.

Is that why so many people are rejected every year despite having perfect grades and certainly in the case of medicine large volumes of work experience?

Standards have improved from what they once were and if anything entering medicine is the hardest it has ever been

But feel free to make throw away comments you aren't qualified to make

Perfect Mickey Mouse courses grades. 35 years ago, only 5% of people went to university and only half of them were up to being doctors and lawyers.

I am going to be studying Law at Kings College London.

MEDICINE is more respected. 1 - anyone who studies medicine is on a respected course. Only a hand full of law courses are respected (top ten Id reckon - so many idiots take it as a degree and end up working as a bored litigation worker for 20 years , scrapping by)

Doctors save lives, lawyers ruin lives
Imagine that you as a lawyer just helped a criminal get away with his crime just because he offered more money, leaving the victim hopeless. That's why lawyers are regarded as cold people

Yeah, those lawyers who have death sentences reduced and the lawyers who got that girl in the US $1bn have really ruined lives. Dr Harold Shipman on the other hand, well he saved lives.
