Yeah, those lawyers who have death sentences reduced and the lawyers who got that girl in the US $1bn have really ruined lives. Dr Harold Shipman on the other hand, well he saved lives.

So your only argument is pointing out a doctor who murdered people?
Not all doctors murder, all lawyers screw

There are no negatives to a doctor performing their job
But in law there are two sides and only one benefits from the outcome. Reducing a death sentence may sound good -but if the state has a death penalty for a crime they committed then isn't it an injustice to the victim for them not to serve it?

Imagine that you as a lawyer just helped a criminal get away with his crime just because he offered more money, leaving the victim hopeless. That's why lawyers are regarded as cold people

Doctors kill as well as cure.

Those are only exceptions

You can become a lawyer with a degree in medicine. The other way around is much lengthier. But at high level both are very highly regarded and both very valuable. Everyone wishes to have a good doctor when one is ill and everyone wishes to have a good lawyer when they are involved in a lawsuit etc.

I’m sure that’ll be based on your wealth of experience in both industries. Shipman is an exception, lawyers who care about clients and want to help them aren’t.

My argument is: you’re making broad, juvenile generalisations about large numbers of people.

The majority of legal work is non-contentious, you’re criticising something you don’t understand and besides in a lot of contentious legal situations only one side deserves to ‘benefit’ from the outcome so the lawyers aren’t doing anything wrong.

Whether you view capital punishment that way or not is up to you; I responded to the original point which claimed lawyers ruin lives. I think it’s a pretty hard argument that someone has ruined a person’s life by saving it.

The law keep society functioning. The legal system creates a fair and just society and does help people.
