My instructor taught me that if I’m approaching a junction on a steep hill ( this is only for a short hill not a long hill otherwise it would take ages lol) before I even get to the hill i would check my mirrors before slowing down middle and left or right and then indicating appropriately like you do for any junction, then select 1st gear because it will give you more engine power to get up the hill that way you won’t stall and have more control, then just before you get to junction like 4 or 3 feet away press clutch in and brake when you get there you might have to use clutch control if your a tad bit short of the junction but this is normal and it’s better to be a tad short of the junction then on the main road 🤗
