Avon way House @ Essex Uni.

Let's start off, it's located 20-25 mins away from the campus. Three to five people in a group; two of which per floor, and three floors a block; in total there are six blocks. It's in Greenstead, used to be quite... unpleasant - but its alot better now.

Rooms are slightly smaller than the South court, though the double bed is a fair compensation. You'd have a shared toilet , possibly two between a group; one kitchen, and depending on which flat, might be two fridge if you're lucky. Kitchen is slightly better equipped than campus, which is nice if you cook a bit. Next to the office, is single common room, with a flat screen, snooker table - good place to relax. Car parks at the back for extra charge, comes handy. It's about 10 mins from Tesco, which is very convenient.

The down sides, there isn't anything more disturbing than the electric oven, doesn't work well. Social life is worser than South court, and the towers. Cos too often people simply aren't there - your mileage may vary. There are few, if any freshers - this does mean Avon way is noticeably quieter than the towers, suitable if you want to study. Compare to the campus, they don't have cleaners neither, you're expected to look after everything. If the internet in the labs are insanely fast, then you're about to learn the exact opposite in Avon Way. Sadly no direct bus - need to walk a fair bit, then change twice to get on campus. Likewise if you want a bus to town, you'd walk about 10 mins, just to the bus stop. A bike would come very handy. They never have fire alarm at night, unless some idiot actually burnt their toast. Normally need to get up pretty early - far cry from campus accommodation where you could be up 5 mins before lecture, and still be on time.

Considering the fact its so far off campus, and that there isn't ensuite bathroom, at well over £80/pw, it's a rip off unless you need somewhere quiet. Few ppl do enjoy it. Some went cos they didn't have a choice. I'd avoid personally.

i just got allocated avon way house as my accom.. i'll be a fresher for law this october.. avon way was my last choice of accomodation! I really wanted the towers or the south courts and was pretty damn upset when I got my last choice. Should I be worried dyou reckon. i think you mentioned there are barely any freshers there! I don't want to be the only one..

I'm a fresher too and got allocated Avon House when it was my last choice... albeit i got a place through clearing, so i guess beggars can't be choosers. Just hope there are a good lot of freshers there .

Guys i just got a room in Avon Way House for this year.Any idea of what it is like?!?

Avon Way at Essex is disgusting .The staff are rude and are extremely unhelpful.There is damp in bedrooms and bathrooms and they do absolutely nothing about it even when you complain countless of times. Everything in their contract is a lie , please save your money and your mental health by not signing it. Bills are not included so you have to pay extra for that alongside a very long contract. I have BOILING hot water coming out of my cold and water taps in the kitchen and bathroom,I get scalded everyday. Everywhere is very outdated, we have a mini fridge which is shared by 3 people. The heater doesn't come on until after Christmas and cannot be adjusted so your room will be very hot 24 hours a day. A complaint was made to the founder and the email was completely ignored. This company beyond the box is a scam, they advertise free parking, which is not the case AT ALL!Please save your save and chose accommodation elsewhere which can be a hard decision because everywhere else is so expensive but trust me your mental health is more important. The mattresses are broken and you will cut up by the springs on the bed.This company is not following the correct guidelines of the environmental health.they advertised that they will refurbish kitchens and bathrooms that never happened or has any plans been made for refurbishment. They have 6 people in a flat sharing one disgusting bathroom.
The oven is also outdated and does not cook your food properly so you will suffer from food poisoning
