Snuff? Nothing? Though in Eastern countries there was always opium, I suppose.

I doubt many people in Britain or other Western people had access to cocaine in the 1400s! I've never read anything which mentions that. I suppose the rich people may have had access (though you never hear anything about that), but the great mass of common people probably would not.

Though when drinking was probably the worst it's ever been in Britain, in the early 19th and late 18th centuries, tobacco was around...

Not just Eastern countries, surely? I saw somewhere recently that lots of literature may have been inspired by opium-induced hallucinations, including Lewis Carroll's "Alice" books! :eek: And S.T. Coleridge was an opium addict, to name but a couple!
Sherlock Holmes smokes opium in his books, I beleive....
