Cocaine was bigger, back in the 1400s.
I doubt many people in Britain or other Western people had access to cocaine in the 1400s! I've never read anything which mentions that. I suppose the rich people may have had access (though you never hear anything about that), but the great mass of common people probably would not.

Not just Eastern countries, surely? I saw somewhere recently that lots of literature may have been inspired by opium-induced hallucinations, including Lewis Carroll's "Alice" books!
And S.T. Coleridge was an opium addict, to name but a couple!Sherlock Holmes smokes opium in his books, I beleive....
