Biomedical science or psychology???

im stuck on what degree to go for. im interested in both however ..

psychology: pointless degree unless u do post grad and get a Phd-but this is fiercely competitive , requires TIME and COMMITMENT . and a psychologist salary is quite average, considering that amount of time and money spent studying for it.

bio: can lead to a range of jobs in the NHS/private practises. pay is ok-better in London. can get a job soon after graduating. however, can post grad and do a phd and specialise in a specific area

what do you guys think???? what do u suggest?

no nasty comments please

I had this fight with myself and eventually went for biology, basically because of what you said. I quite like the idea of studying psychology, but I'm not interested in being a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist, and I didn't want to spend that long in education before getting into a career. Whereas with biology, if I decide I want to go further or do research after all I can, but there are decent and interesting jobs I'd really like to do with just the BSc...

So it's up to you obviously. But it kind of sounds like you're leaning to biomedical sciences already... Good luck deciding!

what are you planning on doing once graduated?
i heard the pay isnt that good for biomedical scientists
however my cousin is one and she is on a good pay as she is on a senior level so i guess it isnt that bad.

i had my heart set on psych. and now wondering what to do :s-smilie:

I'm not exactly sure yet, I think I might see about switching to biomedical sciences, because I really quite like the idea of being in a hospital lab. But I'd maybe think about looking for something as a research technician or similar, just to see what it's like to work in that environment, before I write it off completely. Depends how things go when I start the degree I suppose.

BUT now I keep thinking about how I'd really like to be a speech therapist, when I'd never even give that a thought... I think about it so much, I think I'd be really good at it and I'd really enjoy it... Grrrr indecision. So I'm going to see how this year goes at uni and go from there I think :P

I'm starting Glasgow Uni in a couple of weeks. I think that too, I was so sure of what I wanted to be for so long, but now that it's real there are just so many things I wat to try that I think I'd be good at... I wanted to be a marine biologist between the ages of four and fourteen, then the reality of months away at sea and stuff hit me and I thought 'nahh'. Then I wanted to do cancer research for a while (that was whe I applied for molecular and cellular biology). Then I thought I might want to start earning properly straight away and not have to do quite so many degrees... So now I think I might switch to biomedical science.

Or speech therapy.

Haha... Oh well, we're only young, there's always time!

Hey I'm actually 17 now and I just came across your reply. I have to make a decision too .. just wanted to ask did u continue with biomedical science .. did u change your mind and switched to another course, it's been 12 years since u sent this and I am not even sure if u will reply but I just thought I'll ask. It seemed like you were confused too at that point . How did u make an informed decision as to what you want to major in ??
