Yesterday, Some guy at the City-University talk (first year welcome talk) said to becareful about Meningitis strain B..
Symptons are:
• Severe headaches • Dislike of bright lights • Fever (possibly with cold hands and feet) • Vomiting, sometimes diarrhoea • Stiff neck • Drowsiness • Joint and muscle aches • Confusion or disorientation • Rash on body or limbs • Fitting
He also said students die from strain B due to no vaccine currently existing..
So be vigilant at all times!! - i'm so paranoid now
Try not to stress too much, though I know it's hard. The chances of you getting this are pretty slim so try to keep that in mind
I think that unis can scare monger people into over worrying about such things. I know that the earlier it is caught the better, but still it's a bit like cancer in a sense, contracting it is quite often inevitable and there is no point wasting your life worrying that you are gonna get some life threatening illness.
If you got it you'd be VERY unlucky, so try and enjoy the freshers experience as much as possible and push the worry to the back of your mind
seroiusly don't worry so much, if u think about it to much u'll become paranoid. i had leaflets saying about septicemia (spelt that wrong). they are just giving u the info just in case. surely it's better to know the symptoms so u can get it treated quicker. the uni just doesn't want an epidemic
Don't panic you've got just as much chance as everyone else of getting it, and there are very few people that do. Just be aware of how you might feel should you get it, then if you find yourself with any of the symptoms you can make your make to a doctor to get checked out.
