Hi this is a question for all those people already at Oxbridge and particularly Cambridge. How much of your social life is based in the college? Are most of your friends in the same college as you? In the evenings do you go to your own college ents generally? And are the societies mainly college based?
I really need to know how much the college makes up your social life!!!

it is what you make it, some people have all of their friends in college and some people spend almost no time in college and have friends they met at a university society of knew before they came up. personally i try and stay somewhere in the middle, i have friends in college and also have friends i have met at university society meetings, its good to keep a balance. college is as much a part of life as you want it to be

98% of people will find that college life is all important rather than university.
Few people will spend time with other colleges instead of people from their own

Yep yep.

I find people tend to spend more time with people they've known from school than other uni wide stuff. Sometimes particular colleges intermingle well though for some subjects.
I expect a lot of it is down to convenience given that college friends are likely to only be down the corridor or in the next building.

Alaric.

That's what people from insular colleges say. One of the best things about Hilda's is that everyone gets out there and becomes involved in university life. Same at Newnham, our sister college in Cambridge.

Is that not because of necessity though? If you were to stay in Newnham/NewHall/Hildas you just wouldn't meet any guys.

I guess that's part of it, but apparently New Hall is pretty boring by comparison. I guess it's just a tradition because both are original 19th century colleges which have a history of taking and producing individualistic women who tend to get out there and do stuff. Who wants to only meet and socialise with exactly the same people during their time at university anyway?
