My Back Hurts

i am due to buy a new bed and am currently sleeping on the floor. although i have a choice of beds i want to sleep on the floor because i heard that it was good for posture. oh i am getting a new bed because i think that they bed that i did have is about 15 years old. i decided to get a new one because whenever i wake up from sleep i have a really aching abck and this is kinda scaring me. sleeping on the floor has the same effect. so please help me. oh i went to the doctor and he said that there was no problem that i need a new matress. but he was crap, but ive neve had a new matress so i am going to get one. any way if anyone know about this kind of problem then please can you help me.

Ive got a bad back- from an injury I got from when I used to swim for my county a few years back.
I would say that sleeping on the floor when you dont have to, and you havent been diagnosed with any form of back problem- is not helping matters.
The thing about the matress probably is right. As they get older and take more abuse one way or another, they get worn out- eg springs go and dont support your body in the correct way.I would definatly see what happens when you get your matress- it may make the world of difference.
Also, do you have lots of pillows when you sleep?
If you do, that might be contributing to the stress on your back. Your neck is unaturally positioned this way- and would cause your neck and upper back to hurt.

You should ask him to refer you to a physio or someone similar they will give you the best advice. While you're there ask them which type of matress would be best, extra firm, medium firm etc.

Sleeping on the floor is not going to do you any good - that's a myth. Maybe you do need a new mattress, but a clapped-out bed wouldn't do most people this much damage - your doctor is just trying to get rid of you. In my experience, GPs are terrible with back pain and don't understand it one bit.

If it's come on gradually without any major injury, I would suggest your pain has something to do with posture or perhaps an inherited condition. The only thing that's helped with my back problems is visiting an osteopath - if you can find a good one, they're well worth it. Unlike a chiropractor, an osteopath will look at your whole body and address any issue that crops up, as your back problem could have something to do with your balance, the shape of your spine, or even an old neck or leg injury.

The last time I asked, GPs weren't allowed to refer you to an osteopath, so you'll probably have to find one yourself. The first session will cost more than subsequent ones, as it will include a long consultation about what's wrong with you.

I wouldn't bother with a physio if I were you, as they've never done me any good, and neither have chiropractors (in fact, a very evil chiropractor actually made me worse and I was in bed for a month). But lots of people swear by them, so I suppose you don't know what's going to work.

So, in conclusion, sleep on a bed and find an osteopath. And I find that ibuprofen does the trick when I'm in a state.

It MAY be the way you sit at the computer...if so make sure the back rest is properly adjusted!
