I have no idea... I've tried all the hold your breath, breathe out and hold, breathe in and hold, say welcome stranger, drink 2 gallons of water, shout loudly (obv not at this time of night  ) and all that crap and nothing EVER works... it's just a case of sitting them out for me :frown:

How do you get rid of them? I've had them for over 30mins and they are starting to get annoying

I wish I could tell you - I had them for THREE HOURS on Sunday and I couldn't get rid of them- I was at work and all of the clients were laughing at me!

when i get hiccups they last for days! its so annoying and it gets so bad i end up feeling sick. Try drinking from the wrong end of the cup. Put your mouth over the opposite side of a cup, bend over and tilt your head and make sure you swallow it while still upside down. Best doing this with just water, you will probably spill it and stain your clothes otherwise :P
I just hold my breath forever (well, as long as possible) and it seems to work
 sounds confusing, I guess it's just the stand on your head and drink water thing though, just be upside down and drink it. Can't say I've ever tried it but I bet it doesn't work

iv tried it and it does work (temporarily for me, they always come back!) i think its something todo with the swallowing against gravity, i dunno. :P
It's odd, I hate hiccups  Anything that's supposed to get rid of them never works, even the fright thing. My mate swears blind that if you say "welcome stranger" they'll go away! Madness...
lie on the floor, stretch your arms above your head and hold your breath! WARNING: doing this in public may make you look stupid

Hold your breath and jump up and down a few times. Works for me

I have a cure - has NEVER failed. I was taught it by a Swedish person  But it's too hard to explain really :frown:

I always found just holding your breath doesn't work, but swallowing an awful lot does. If I swallow just as im about to hiccup, it has always cured them. You have to get pretty lucky with the timing, but it works every time for me.
There cool. Eat sugar.

The best way to get rid of hiccups is to concentrate very, very hard on having the next hiccup.

like it- no idea if it works but its a nice idea
what always seems to work with me is if someone randomly scares u-jumps out and says boo etc... i do this to all of my friends when they have hiccups and more often than not they dont hiccup again
I find that if you talk about them to someone (obv in person) they go away coz you're waiting for it to happen again.. I don't know why that should be, it's rather odd really
Breathe in,

Drink a whole glass of water in one

Breathe out

Burp as appropriate

Hey presto, no hiccups. Never fails me.

When I get hiccups I just force myself to swallow a few times and they dissapear completely.
