In your personal opinion...

Bit of a silly question. Depends on course, individual priorities, etc. Also people are likely to answer with

'OXFORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!' or 'CAMBRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!'

Whilst this is true, the question refers to 'general' superiority (ie. perhaps a better location or reputation). It is certainly an invitation for prospective students to vote according to which university they have chosen to apply.

Surely things like location and reputation are subjective according to what someone whants to study/where they live/what they want to be near/what they want from a university expereicne in general.

Oh I don't know. I applied to Cambridge because Oxford don't do philosophy on it's own. However, Oxford has better named colleges (like Balliol) and are more likely to let you in if you miss your grades at A level. Cambridge has a really good fudge shop though. It's a tricky one. I need to give this some more thought.

(I've thought now, and the fudge shop wins every time. Cambridge!)

For good reason, I might add.

Nonsense!

-The location is not subjective "according to what someone wants to study."

-I agree with you that every student has a different idea about "where they want to live/what they want to be near/what they want from a university experience in general" and it is for this reason that I am encouraging people to vote - so that we can see if there is a clear majority pointing in one direction.

You seem to be arguing against yourself!

Didn't mean that. Location really depends on the person. If you live in Reading, for example, and want to go home a lot, Oxford is a better location. If you live in Norwich, then Cambridge is better.

And since the people viewing this come from locations which represent England as a whole (and even further afield) this will even itself out.

Haha, I have some Jim Whatshisname fudge in the back of my fridge!
It's like asking "which is better: Sussex or Lancaster". It completely depends on the individual.

Finally, you seem to get the idea! That's what votes are for... to express your INDIVIDUAL opinion!!!

Cambridge every time; over the past few years it has consistently been ahead of Oxford in all the league tables. Take History as an example - Cambridge is 1st; Oxford 4th.
Having said that, the courses offered at Oxford are more "up to date" in that their joint honours system is, imho, more appealing to the prospective student.
Cor the free samples are lovely. It's probably a good thing Cambridge aren't letting me in cos I would get supremely fat.

But why even ask in the first place as it's not going to give you an overall view, just a bunch of subjective opinions

If you don't want to go with subjective opinions, which was the point of this thread, then look at the league tables; and in the vast majority of cases Cambridge tops Oxford.

An overall view, or consensus, is made up of everybody's individual opinion.

Exactly. But the league tables are likely to be slightly more objective than this thread, no?
