Best chant: Oxford or Cambridge

Do the Tabs have any good chants?

Oxford has two I know of: I'd rather be a leper than a Tab (to the tune of she'll be coming round the mountain), which is funny but not too rousing, and a second one, which is fooking great, where you just chant "ooxxxfoooord...ooxxfoooord". Heard that one at the Henley Boat Races this year, twas awesome.

I know the Tabs have You can show your dreaming spires up your us, which personally I think is a slightly less amusing copy of I'd rather be a leper.

well of course there's "I'd rather be at Oxford than at Johns." You may think that's not a slur on Oxford as after all we could be singing "I'd rather have a nice big creamcake than be at Johns" and well creamcakes are a wonderful notion. But yes, it is meant to be a slur. So there.
Love the Oxford one :love:

I had to side with Oxford on this one. I've been thinking, though, perhaps we could have "Caaaaambriiiidge Caaaaambriiiidge Caaaaambriiiidge" or something? That'd show the scum who's boss.

You're just upset fully 50% of known Cambridge chants are also slurs of your college!

And yeah, that did occur to me. Don't think it'd sounds as good coz bridge is two syllables whereas ford is just the one.

And the forum today has shown that yet again, them sneaky Tabs triumph in the academic stakes, but where it really counts: sports, chants (drunken or otherwise) etc, Oxford wins!

Ooxxxfoooord...ooxxxfoooord...ooxxxfoooord...ooxxxfoooord...

I think cam should take on "cambridge cambridge cambridge cambridge cambridge cambridge cambridge cambridge .... " to the tune of "badgers badgers badgers." Although it's just too damn tempting to replace "mushroom mushroom!" with "oxford oxford!" Which isn't acceptable. Think of something else to replace mushroom.

Yes, you're right of course. The problem is, if I now move to Oxford for my clinical training, I will have proved the chant right. Is that a good reason for staying put?

"Bridge" is two syllables?? Admittedly, "bridge" is the sort of word that would get completely muffled as soon as hundreds of people start chanting it.

Cambridge may lose to Oxford, but Johns trumps all. :wink:

Sign on, sign on...

P.S. Can you add Johns to the poll, please? I think we should be the third option. EDIT: Fith option. Sorry, I'm from Johns, after all.

Does this article seem a wee bit negative towards Oxbridge or do I imagine?

It seems ok to me. I presume it was probably written by an Oxbridge graduate anyway?

lol, I like the entry for Cambridge University: http://www.answers.com/University%20of%20Cambridge

Cambridge University, at Cambridge, England, one of the oldest English-language universities in the world. Originating in the early 12th cent. (legend places its origin even earlier than that of Oxford Univ.), Cambridge was organized into residential colleges, like those of Oxford, by the end of the 13th cent.

are you thinking of cambridge like "cam-ber-idge"? And even if you are, it's still superior because you can think of it both ways....and you know what else can be thought of in both ways? ENGLAND!

"Cam-Bridge" => "ENG-LAND"
"Cam-Ber-Idge" => "ING-GER-LAND"

win!
