I don't think it matters, unless you are applying for similar subjects where there is only a quota generally: e.g. peopple applying for history or ASNAC maybe competing for the same place.

Does it matter if two people from the same school apply to the same Oxbridge college? I just found out that someone else at my school has put down the same college as me (but for a different subject) and a teacher said it will put us both at a disadvantage. If this is true then I'll change, but don't they just pick the best, regardless of which school they go to?

Thanks for any help.

Round objects! Makes no difference whatsoever. Most likely the two subject tutors doing the interviewing won't even be aware of this, and wouldn't care if they were.

And if you were applying for the same subject, especially if it was a largeish subject, the increase in competition would be very slight.
Unless you are both doing vetmed at the same college. There was only one place at my college.

i did point out I was talking for a large subject - there are other subjects like E&M at Oxford, where it wouldn't be a good idea.

anyway doesn't apply in this case apparently.

Thanks, guys! It's good to hear it won't really make a difference. We're applying for History and Languages respectively, so I don't think we'll be competing for the same places. Now the only problem will be convincing said teacher, who will probably try to make one of us change

Don't let him/her! It really makes no difference at all. Ring the admissions office or college if you want it from the horse's mouth. Ask the teacher why they think it would make a difference.

But frankly, even if it did make a difference, THIS IS YOUR CHOICE, not theirs!

Tangentially I know of one subject where there are two students from the same school studying the same subject in the college in EACH of two consecutive years. Didn't matter there, twice!

In Corpus there's 2 girls coming up from Perse, Cambridge and a boy in the 2nd year from Perse and a boy in the 3rd from Perse! All for English! so it doesn't seem to matter......

there are normally at least 3 freshers from my old 6th form at my college. & of the medics/physiologist there's me, one in the year above & one in the year above that! & i wonder about the new freshers..

that said, we weren't allowed to apply same college same subject same year - which i can understand why they'd want to do that..

hope this reassures you a tad! :p:

Ah, but who gives in if you have 2 determined to go to one college?

I wouldn't apply for the same /subject/ at the same college. That'd just be a bit dim.

at my school = the person who didn't get to our signing up book fast enough!

(did i shamelessly exploit my personal connection to our oxbridge co-ordinator to get a headstart? but once i chose my college it was mine. *ruthless Elles emerges* )

My school banned this because it could lead to the destruction of the universe. It's just like meeting your past self should you ever use a time machine - it disrupts the very fabric of existence.

in my college there are 2 boys from the same school, doing different sujects. there's also me and a girl in my year, but she's doing law. it really doesn't matter if the subjects are different.

Nope - from my personal experience as well as common sense - me and a friend both got into BNC this year for History and Bio Sciences respectively...

Good luck convincing said teacher!

 I like this newly-revealed side to you
My friend upset me a bit when, after months of saying she was applying to Oxford, she suddenly came out with I'm applying to Trinity Hall, in Cambridge, because my boyfriend's sister went there. Oh... she's my friend but I didn't want to have someone there I knew, I worried it'd stop me going out and making new friends. Thing is though, she was going for Law and me for English, and when it's not even the same subject why should it be noticed? I got in, she didn't, so I don't even have to worry about the going out and meeting new people thing anymore.
Someone else chose the same college as me but apparently it doesn't matter unless it's the same subject and we're applying for Geog & Languages so it's all good!
I don't think it'd matter either,although I'm not yet in Uni,but still,as long as not a same subject.....^0^good luck anyway

I think my schools reasoning for one per college was
a) they'd like to have their fingers in lots of pies, Little Jimmy did well at Trinity this year, I'm sure they would like to have you along if you applied. But if you don't like trinity Tommy at Girton could probably help you out
b) They wanted people to be at different colleges so that you did get to know other people and didn't hang around other people from the same school
