Best place to meet new people

Now, for the record, i don't want to meet new people. It's just i was going to derail the "talking to strangers" thread, but decided to start a new one instead.

I've found the best place ever for meeting new people or flirting or whatever it queues. Queues for the cinema, for example, when you're with a small group of guy mates next to a group of girl mates (one girl, and you'll intimidate her. And if she's going on her own, she's probably a bit... special), just talk about random crap.

Also, on queues for rides at theme parks is another great time, especially since you'll probably bump into them again at some point. If you have any cuddly toys or inflatably hammers to play around with, so much the better.

now, where's YOUR favourite not-so-normal pick up spot?

I talk to old ladies at bus stops.

And oi! I've been to the cinema alone, once.

Apparently the supermarket ranks highly, not that I go shopping yet but I can see why it would be good.

Wow its true... my mummy always said i was special...

Anyway, book shops are quite cool for randomly chatting to people

The airplane. Once I got chatted up by a 60 year old man with bad breath. (A woman also cried to me about not seeing her children for 2 years on a separate plane ride.) I almost puked with the 60 year old man...anyway... Meeting new random people is usually a painful experience for me (consider the previous).

Or how about at a rock concert when a guy I just met went to the bathroom, came out, and put his hands on my mouth after creeping up on me...that's the way to go. Touch me with your urine-stained hands please...almost puked then as well.

Ok, also, school library. You can meet people there as well.

my top 2 are probably airplane and randomly on campus...

This may come as a surprise to you, but most people go to the library to work, and when they're there, they're usually pretty busy.

Really? I thought the library was for fun and games.

I've only studied at the library on rare occasions (it's too quiet), in between classes, and I ended up chatting with some random stranger guy about crap...so yeah... we were "hard at work."

I hate studying in the library. Lots of people/distractions around, incommodious seating arrangements, people get annoyed if you use your laptop...

I find the best thing to do is to take the books out, and study in one's room.

What I am saying, is that I am generally not 'pretty busy' when I'm in a library.

I think the best places are areas where people are more likely to complain and therefore induldge in expressing their views - bus stops, queues, lecture halls (at the back!) etc etc

I met a film writer because he was bored and wanted to talk to someone [i.e. moan!] when our train was cancelled.

Airports! Write a random surname on a piece of card, hold it up at arrivals and you may get lucky.

Might as well write "Smith" if you're in the UK.

Anywhere and everywhere.

Bookshops, Coffee shops, train stations (some people may find this odd but I have had many great conversations with lovely people on the platform of a trainstation) and drama groups. I added the last one only because my friend concluded that the best place to find love is within a drama group. The reasons being that it often provides the oppertuinty to climb all over people (at mine it does anyway..) which is an instant ice breaker.

Trains are sometimes good and sometimes not though - some people are quite conversational, some will just ignore you completely. I have to admit I do get annoyed by some people on trains, but I don't mind talking to others. Just don't try it on the Tube!

Oh and stations are also ok, especially if (as usual) the train is delayed.

outside the toilet in a train. While some idiot can't read that the toilet isn't engaged.
Or on a bus.
