I'm almost certain that I will apply for the course.
Profile:
PGDip Economics Warwick '10-'11
BCom 77%
GRE Q780 V540 AWA4
CIMA Part Qualified
HSBC Internship in Equity Analysis - 2010

My diploma is just a year so I'm still confused about when to apply and how to get good references from Warwick within such a short span of time :frown:

Whats your profile like? OP and ProspectiveEcon

I'm starting the economics PGDip this September. Going to try real hard to get 70-75.

No, I'm from India so I did the internship at the Mumbai office (head office for India). I was working in the private banking department, it was phenomenal.

What do you reckon my chances are?

Your profile looks great btw :yep:

You have a really good chance since you have a very high percentage in your bachelors. Cambridge only care about references and undergraduate marks as far as I am aware, which will be a disadvantage for me as my marks are really low.

I don't think your marks are that low. I heard a couple of people around here saying they got conditional offers for the MPhil Economics. The condition was 67% so I think you have a good chance (might be different for the MPhil Finance, I'm not too sure).

What are you planning on doing now? Till September next?

Finish my degree as I graduate in June 2011. Why are you doing the diploma? Don't Cambridge accept the BCOM?

A BCom is a general business degree. It consists mostly of accounting modules therefore it doesn't have enough economics or econometrics for either an MSc in Economics or Finance.

In fact, I applied for the MSc Finance at Warwick and was rejected. I spoke to a couple of people and I found out after.

Hey.. Just finished my second year studying Maths and Economics at Uni of Lpool..

Profile:
A Levels: AAAB
BA (Joint Hons) Maths and Economics - 2nd year avg 81%
Internships: MAS Holdings (Operational Management) and Standard Charted Bank (Consumer Banking).

Both your profiles look really great.. unfortunately I do not have any experience in the Finance (and especially IB) sector, which probably counts as a big disadvantage...

By the way, what other uni's are u'l planning to apply to??

But you have the 81 :eek3: that's what matters the most.

Hey, I wanted to know. My diploma mostly requires me to take second year undergrad modules. Do you have exams during the year or only at the end? I need to know because I will submitting these applications (for different MSc's) around Jan and I hope I have some transcript of my diploma.

Either way you can't submit your diploma transcripts from your January exams because the marks are provisional and not final.

I was thinking aboout the Oxford MSc in MAthematical and Computational Finance...

How about the programs at warwick... and wat abt the Financial Economics program at oxford.. i heard that their business school has got strong links with Barcap... I agree with u though.. LSE has got some really nice programs, and a great reputation...

I'm planning on applying for the following:
MSc Finance and Economics - Warwick, LSE
MSc Financial Economics - Oxford
MSc Accounting and Finance - LSE

I think the Warwick program should be easy to get into because the Diploma gives me direct entry into any MSc program in the economics dept if I get >60%. But I'll have to make another application to WBS.

But is there anyway of getting a statement of my performance in the January exams even if provisional. I mean either way they're only going to give me conditional offers. Will referees be able to mention it? Or at least where I'm likely to be placed in the class?

Nice choice... Even I was thinking about the Oxford MFE, but the fees kinda put me off.. besides it's supposed to be extremely tough to get into.. but u will probably have an excellent chance, as you have got both the degree and a postgrad diploma form one of the best universities in the UK to help you with..... LSE has some of the best programs on offer for prospective IB workers.. But i was not really sure whether would nejoy the hustle and bustle of London... I really want to go into one of those campus oriented universities like Cambridge, warwick or oxford, since Liverpool is of similar style..

Well I guess that probably differs from one University to another, but there has to be some way by which you can get a report on how you have performed in your academic year so far.. It's best to speak to your personal tutor or some one at the student support office and see.. and I am sure that referees would take your results in January into account when writing the statement so hopefully they would mention it someway..

And i think the referees are supposed to predict our results at the end of the year as well, just like the references in our undergrad applications , though I am not entirely sure about this...

Thanks I'll speak to the tutors when I get there, which is in about 2 weeks! :woo:

Yeah I really like Oxford and Cambridge, especially because of their tradition and the college system!

I'm an LFC fan
