Sorry about cambridge, they already gave out all offers. btw When did you apply to cambridge?... Of all the options, I think warwick is the best by far.

My status just changed to application unsuccessful now :frown: Didn't even get an email about it. My options are now:

1.) MSc in Finance in Warwick (Conditional on a 1st).
2.) MSc in Quantitative Finance in Smurfit Business School (Conditional on a 2.1).
3.) MSc in Finance & Investments in RSM (After I do my GMAT and likely conditional on a 2.1)
4.) Do nothing and hope that I get a full time offer after my internship with Morgan Stanley this summer.

I really don't know what to do at this stage. Warwick is good but costs £22,500. Smurfit Business School is not nearly as good but I like the course, I can live cheaply at home and I will most likely get a scholarship which will leave the fees at only around €6000. RSM would also be decent as it is ridiculously cheap. Don't know if doing my GMAT at the end of May will be early enough to get my application in before the course is full though :s-smilie:

After emailing the department..what was their response ???

I changed my mind and I did not send them an email because I found a flow chart in their site that said that it s most like a technical issue. However, i have sent them an email a week ago because my status was for a really long time under consideration, and they told me that the places were full and that they will know until the middle of April if they will have another 2 or 3 places. I hope that they will find the places and do not reject me at the end for a reason like that.. :s-smilie:

I hope you can eventually be given an offer. I know you lodged your application in December, it isn't very fair for you to wait for such a long time (and perhaps until the mid April as you mentioned). What exactly does your note say under your status after you click the "View" button? It looks like you are not willing to disclose whether you have been recommended for an offer or not. This information is critical to determine your current position. But anyway, there is really no reason not to contact them for clarification. Are you honestly happy to wait even longer? Maybe you are the "no. 1" on the waiting list, you just don't know, right? Good luck.

When I say that my status is papers with degree committe, I think that it is really obvious that under it says that I have been recommended for an offer....Moreover, I do not contact them because I m 99% sure what they ll tell me. They ll tell me what my status say, I have to be accepted from the Bogs too to be offered a place, probably they ll not tell me what happened with the number of places.. I waited for so long so to wait another 10 days I do not believe is a big problem. In addition, like in my country say, patience is a virtue.. :P

Yes. On 23 March. You should be fine. Looks like you are the lucky last! You may want to contact Penny Paterson, [email protected], she is the chief clerk of the BoGS, she can definitely tell where ur application is now. She can even tell whether your recommendation will indeed become a real official offer (and when). She helped me a lot while I was waiting.

It is possible for one's note to be "your papers are with the degree committee for consideration" even if the status is also "papers with degree committee". I have mentioned this before. This happened to last year's wait listed applicants. I am so sorry if my request for your clarification offended you in any way. I could understand ... I also felt very stressed when I was waiting.

Best of luck, mate.

Dude... I'm really confused... so you have "papers with degree committee", click on the view, you have "you have been recommended..." then you are in!

My conditional offer is out. Only two major conditions:
i) Attend the math & stat course
ii) Provide a new reference letter from one of my referees, written on institution letterhead paper and bearing original signature. (I guess my supervisor either forgot to use a letterhead paper or forgot to sign again on the reference letter itself).

The following information may help some people to understand the overall admission process.

Application submitted (and completed): the second last week of February
Received a recommendation of offer: first week of March
Conditional offer received: 23 March

I resummarise my info as follows. Hopefully, this can help explain some admission myths. It may be particularly useful to people who are going to apply next year.

No GMAT/ No GRE
No internship or industrial experience (only worked as a teaching assistant for one semester)
Bachelor's degree in quantitative economics/econometrics; Master's degree in quantitative finance
Top Australian universities.
First class honours. (84% - when 80% is the min requirement for first class)
Thesis, high distinction (something like A* in the US system)
Reference letters from thesis supervisor and thesis examiner

My info may look highly ordinary but that's how I got through the admission.

I personally understand very well how painful the waiting process is and the eager to know more information from others. My final comment is, we all have good academic qualifications (and some with impressive industrial experience), however, it is very hard to guess what Cam is exactly looking for. Some luck is involved I think (for my case, very much luck is involved) So, please don't get frustrated even if you miss out the offer. It does not mean in any sense you are academically inferior. In fact, most of you have received offers from other excellent universities which is quite a message that you are top students. Good luck everyone.

Dude, your profile is not ordinary... it's very very good...

For future applicants, I would like to encourage everyone with a good GPA (I am a US applicant and I got a condition of GPA 3.85, so I guess you should have higher than that to apply, unless you already have a master degree), and a decent amount of math and stat classes (I got a math minor + two more mathematical Stats, with Finance and Econ double major) to apply AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE (well, maybe before december 1st is early enough, because I feel their first round review is in late Dec/ early Jan)...

Good luck everyone!

MSc in Finance from Warwick appears to be a very good choice. I have a close friend who did his internship (IBD) in Morgan Stanley 2 years ago. MS didn't offer any full time position to him at all despite the fact that MS rated him very highly and wrote him a strong reference letter. His academic result is quite competitive and graduated from a top 40 university in the world. However, since then he has not been able to join any ibank anymore. He told me MS internship was more like using people to do word processing and powerpoint preparation works.

Just as I feared. Everyone I talk to seems to recommend Warwick. I was really trying to justify to myself not having to spend so much but in the long run I suppose it will be worth it. Since I have accepted I'm going to have to pay a lot, I've also just completed my application for the MSc in Finance at Imperial. I would be happier spending the extra few thousand to go there, live in London and have the far more internationally recognised name on my CV at the end of it. I'm just hoping my experience at MS is not like you mentioned tk85. When I was interviewing I spoke to two analysts there, both from Ireland like myself and both of whom who were kept on after internships so that gives me at least some hope  And Adri2010, I applied to Cambridge pretty much in the last week before it closed. I know I shouldn't have left it so late but I wasn't actually planning on doing a Masters until I got my internship offer. Once I got that I thought it would be best to take it and hopefully get a better job later with that experience plus a Masters.

Nope, just the "sorry we had to reject you, you almost made it" email. :frown:

CamSIS still says, "under consideration by department"

Dear all, My status has been "Paper with Degree Committee" and "You have been recommended for an offer subject to Board of Graduate Studies approval" for a long time (about 2 weeks or more, I don't know for sure).

I have just email to ask and got the answer from Penny Paterson: "Your offer will be processed within the next few days". Can anyone let me know what does that mean? An offer??? So confused

hey,
Generally when you've been recomended for an offer, it means that ur certain of an offer, subject to BOGS approval, which is purely an adminstrative decision.. so congrats!!.. ... but havn said that, I'm not sure wether ne of their principles have changed, as Cambridge has put some restriction on the number of offers which would be given out... From what one of the past students said, they have hardly heard of ne 1 who has been rejected, after being recommended for an offer.. so the odds are with u.... neways Good Luck, and hopefully c u in Cam nest year...

I m in the same position my friend..it s almost 2 weeks my status has changed but still no offer. I contacted Nena Nelson and she said that it is rare not to be given an offer but only the Bogs can give an official offer, so until we have an offer nothing is certain.. :frown:

Did Penny refer to you anything about limited places??

No, I forgot to mention that information in my query :frown:

Penny is from the BOGS. Guess that all we can do is to wait
