Hey guys was just reading your thread there found it interesting! Im looking to apply to:

Oxford: msc financial economics
Camebridge: mphil Economics
LSE: msc economics and finance
Warwick: msc economics and finance
UCL: Msc Economics

I did a 4 year Bsc European Business and Law from Dublin majoring in economics and finance and got 85% (Spent my third year in Brussels on Erasmus doing my course in French)
Heres the thing though i did a 3 week placement with the Northern Bank but not an 'official' internship....think that will affect my application cause everyone seems to have one/two!?

Also sitting my GRE in 2 weeks....any advice on a score i should be aiming for? slash is it hard??? to me it seems ssoo anoying!

Thanks for the advice!

thats a really strong profile... I do not think that not having an intership will really affect your chances.. especially since your avg is so good.. but it will depend on the course that your planning to apply to.. some may ask for work experience and some may not.. but the fact that u'v done a placement regardless of whether it was an internship or not, coupled with your strong academic back ground should really put you in a strong position.. but then again that just my opinion... from what i'v heard previous Mphil Economics applicants to cambridge where asked to obtain avg's between 67 - 69% in their final year...

For your GRE you should aim to get 780-800 in the Quantitative section and above 500 is good in the verbal (Most people have told me they dont look into this as long as you have a decent score). AWA doesn't really matter too much i think.

Yup your profile looks very strong indeed!

Would like to know, is GMAT required for uk students? it doesnt state on their website.
I know LSE wants GMAT from students who have attended non-uk universities.
What about cambridge?
Thanks

Hi!
I would also be interested in applying for an Mphil in Finance at Cambridge University but I really don't know what my chances since I did almost all my studies in France and the system is quite different tehre. Here is my profile:

2006-2008 - Prep school at Lycée Henry IV (which is one of the best in Paris) - I studied most Maths and Physics and prepared for the entry exams in "Grandes Ecoles"

2008 - 2011 - ENSIIE : it's a "Grande Ecole" in France (not really a top one) specialized in Computer Science but also having courses in Maths, Economics, Management, Communication. I took a major in Finance last year (studied Econometrics, Financial Maths, Assets Pricing, Insurance). In my first year I was fifth of my class (we are about 120-130) and last year I was first of my class (and also first in the Finance module). This year (my 3rd one) I'm continuing my studies at Oxford. In the end I will have both a degree from my school ("Diplôme d'ingénieur") and from oxford (MSc).

2010 - 2011 - MSc in Computer Science - my dissertation will involve finance, it will probably be on quantitative finance (i will use my knowledge in computer science to study financial markets/models).

I would like to do this mphil because i find finance really fascinating and challenging for me and because i think that it will give me the opportunity to work afterwards in banks.

So is there any chance to be accepted at Cambridge?

Well the web site says that GRE/GMAT will be useful if your form a lesser known university. So I guess it depends, though I am guessing that its not needed for UK University applicants.

Hi mates. I submitted it last week and the current status on camsis is "under consideration by department". Anybody know how long it would take for the status to change?

My profile:
University: Uni of Liverpool
Degree to be obtained: BSc (Hons) Maths with Finance
Expected classification: First Class
Internships: one in equity research, the other in VC, both in local firms in China
GMAT: 760 + 4.5

bump!!!!

Is it worth applying if you are currently on a high 2:1 but aiming to change that to a first by graduation...from a top 10 university...also taking the gmat...do you think i would get a conditional offer???

Hey guys,

I was wondering if I have the chops to get into the Mphil program at Cambridge, because I come from a "backwater" school in Canada.

My profile is as follows

-GPA: 4.16/4.3
-B.Comm in Finance (with heavy maths incl. econometrics, math econ.,calculus, multivariable calc., differential equations, probability, lin. alg and financial maths)
-Competed in the CFA Global Investment Research Challenge ( top 3 in the Americas, 1st in Canada)
-Managed the energy sector of the schools investment fund
- However...680 GMAT

I want to get in the program, largely because I hope to get into the quantitative side of the industry. But I am kind of concerned by the GMAT factor. What do you guys think? Is it worth applying?

Does anyone know when they will start to send out offers or rejections??

I applied in Sept and my application was sent to the department on October 9, but I heard that Cambridge MPhil department can take very long to answer! I would appreciate any insight into this..

Profile:

BA (Honors) 3.92/4.0 GPA from University of Miami (top 50 American Uni) honors student and two internships, one for IMG World Group and Sony Ericsson WTA Tennis tour.. Two good recs, but not much besides that.

I don't know what my chances are of getting in, I am hoping they weigh GPA's heavily.. :s-smilie:

well even though ur gmat score is low, I would definitely apply if I were you. After all it is Cambridge, and its always worth a shot. Besides, other than your GMAT score, ur profile looks strong.. All the best..

high 2:1 from a top uni would put you in a great position in my opinion.. Besides you can prove any critics wrong by doing your GMAT's well....

thank you...will give it a try...hopefully i nail gmat

@kuzelle: yeah I kind of **** the bed with the GMAT, I studied about 2 weeks for it and waltzed in, so I might retake it depending on how things go. Nonetheless thanks for the words of wisdom.

Though on a follow up note, (and this might sound stupid) but getting a reference from an alumni of the program, would that significantly up the chances if not partially eclipse my performance on the GMAT?
