Coolboxes in halls?

So, I'm here at Notts. Just been told that my coolbox isn't allowed as it contravenes the regulations.

Before I go and have a chat with the hall manager, can someone explain why?

Normal fridges, I can understand, but this one is designed for car use, so it uses VERY little power (0.7 amps, max is 5amps), so why?!

Edit:

Also, there is ONE kitchen+fridge for this entire block of 40 ish people, AND its on the ground floor, im 5 floors up. Not happy!

Not entirely sure why there'd be a problem if it's not using much power. I can't really see what the difference would be between that and a computer.

Which Halls are you in? We(am in Ancaster) have one kitchen to each floor(around 16 flats) which I've yet to use.

Just don't declare you have it!

I know :frown:
I'm in Lincoln.

The cleaner saw it, thats the problem, and snitched to hall management :frown:

I'm going to say "OK, I won't plug it in", and only plug it in when I'm in the room (then they can't say it could be a fire risk unattended if they found it on).

I plan to have a mini fridge and yes, cleaners can be bitches. I was thinking of covering the fridge with a cloth so and put some stuff on it so it looks like a table.

could it work?

You can only try.

I have a fridge in my room and no one as said anything. I cant see the prblem with using one. My advice would be to keep it, just keep it sly in a wardrobe or somehting as i have. I dont think i would survive without my fridge as the one we have in our kitchen is pathetic.

i am F***KING P**SED OFF!
(excuse language).

To bring you up to speed:
Initially, cleaner saw it plugged in, and said "I'm not sure about that, don't think its allowed, will talk to hall manager".
Few days pass, she says: "the hall managers not happy, not happy at all. it will have to go into storage"
i say: "oh ok, is it ok then if I just leave it unplugged and use it as a coolbox (non electric)?" (it gets hot in here)
she says: "I'll check with mgr"
few days later: "no, thats not acceptable, it could be a fire risk (?!?!? its not plugged in, me thinks that detail 'got lost'), it will have to go into storage, here's a label, I can take it down if u want"
"oh, i'll sort it out then, leave it with me."
this was um..wednesday.
I put it (unplugged, with milk (long life stuff that doesn't need to be in a fridge, along with a bottle of champagne mum gave me, and soem orange juice)), in my cupboard, deciding to leave it there till I've had a chance to talk to hall manager, dad's coming up on Sunday, so I figured if it really couldn't be sorted, he could take it home.

I go off to lecture today, come back, only to find that everything that was in my UNPLUGGED coolbox is in the sink, and the coolbox has disappeared.

Now, I spoke to hall manager yesterday about something else (he saw me and came over), and not once was the coolbox mentioned (it slipped my mind to ask him).
Also, the cleaner left a note with the porter that the amount of cables in my room "concerns" her, and might consitute a fire risk.
I'm going to talk to warden later I think, but what are other's opinions on this? Cleaner doesn't like me maybe?

I really want to change to Broadgate park now

ooh, the cleaner just came in to change bins, not a word was said.

Just seen a note on desk "your fridge has been taken to store room in office. joan (housekeeper)"

what do I do?
Its NOT A FRIDGE! And even less of a FRIDGE unplugged.
this sounds extremely infuriating! you should come to Cripps instead! perhaps its just the fact your cleaner -with presumably non university education  simply does not have the comprehension to understand the concept of safe unplugged cool boxes! isn't your cool box technically posing just as much a threat in the storage office or even greater one as it will be almost continually unattended! crazy ! hope the cleaners don't have a go at me about my hair straighteners ...

I really like Cripps, its close to my lectures and looks good!
But I didn't get Cripps :frown:
I had to take my dangly door hanging down because it was a fire hazard. I then had to take down the poster I put on my door to replace it because apparently that's a fire hazard too.
lol, my cleaners just dont care, she shouldnt have taken it out of your cupboard that was out of order, meh!

I would complain about invasion of privact or something

it's a bit weird they went through your cupboard hmm..

paco is a bit of an idiot but we had quite a lot of fires because of those free popcorn makers that barclays and i'm fairly sure lincoln had a larger fire about ten years ago, you sorta can't blame them for being anal

oh and half the cleaners are students
True true...

Thing is though, I wasn't going to have it plugged in. It was in cupboard cause its cool, and it would keep stuff cool (COOLbox hmm?) rather than out in the sun by window.
Its that, that narks me.
My cleaner is quite cool. Although, what I do hate is the fact she will bang so loudly on the door, but even if I spring to the door she has opened it already. What is the point of knocking if she is going to come in regardless?

To let you know she's coming, giving you a full second to stop doing whatever it was that you didn't want to be caught doing.

HINT: Leave your bin outside your room and put a do not disturb notice on your door if you're doing something you don't what to be caught doing. Note that this isn't guaranteed.

If you want to keep stuff in a cupboard out of the sun then nobody is stoppoing you from doing that. You obviously got a coolbox so you could plug it in. The basic fact is that you knew you weren't allowed to bring it, you did it anyway and now you're annoyed that they took it off you. Time to get over it?

Hah yeah, same here! It's like BANG and she's in! Wonder if you have the same cleaner or something!

They banned fridges, NOT coolboxes.
Fridges != Coolbox.

Semantics aside, the point is, I took what they said into mind, so I decided to use it as a box to store things in, out of the sun. Its the fact that they still took it away after that , which gets to me.
