Hi everyone, i got accepted on the year zero art foundation course at derby university after applying for the BA Hons Photography course. In the interview they said i did not have enough historical knowledge and some other stuff to get on the full course, but they liked my portfolio so they offered me a foundation course. During the interview i asked wheather the year zero course contained any modules where drawing or paper based art forms had to be done, they told me that everyone is set the same work in each module and we complete it in our specialised field, so for me it would be photography. So i accepted the offer.

Recently ive been in contact with one of the lectures there and they have informed me that one of the modules is purley based on drawing skills. I cant draw what so ever, ive been trying to learn but it just isnt going to happen. So now im worried that because of this i will not be able to get a high enough mark at the end of the year to get on the full course.

I've looked at the modules and they are worth 120 credits in total, with the module containg the drawing worth 30 credits.

Just wanted to know if anyone has got any advice, or done a year zero course before.

If it's the same system as 1st year undergrad you get the full amount of credit for each module you get a pass grade (D-) or better in.
basically you need to pass every module i.e. accumulate 120 points per year to progress.

Seeing as you have had two different answers it'll be worth finding out from the horses mouth about the detail of the actual *assessment* on that module as to whether you are definitely assessed on drawings... or whether they try teach you drawing as part of the module but will assess you in the medium of your choice.

It's the assessment that counts towards the grade.

these are the people to speak to about modules and credits http://www.derby.ac.uk/pas/derby
