They're all in their rooms working. That's why they're at Oxford!

Reply 2

They're too good for clubs.

:ninja:

lol.

I went out all the time (2-3 times a week) when I was in Oxford. FWIW, different colleges go to different pubs and clubs depending on what's nearby.

Reply 4

I'm going to hazard a guess at the university?

Reply 5

Cambo211's probably right; I think all Oxford students tend to hang out at The University. >.>

Reply 6

erm, people go to clem's and babylove mostly, i think. or maybe that's just my friends. babylove's the only oxford club i've gone to. but most students do seem to go out a lot - we're not all in our rooms all the time, honest!

it's weird, i just don't think we tend to hang out in places that brookes students do - i've only met one oxford brookes student (at the purple turtle) and i've been at the university for two years.

They go to the library. I think.

Babylove's the club I avoid the most, which is a shame because it's really close to my accom. Clem's, Kukui, Bridge, and Lava Ignite/parkend are all full of oxford students.

Brookes is far away from those clubs, so my guess is they don't end up there much.

true, but i think a lot of brookes students live on cowley road and stuff, so it's not like we live particularly far apart? but i'm sure that's part of it.

But aren't there clubs on Cowley road? Personally I would go to O2 or something instead of walking all the way to Parkend.

I think there's something to be said for uni and brookes students not interacting--I think I've only ever talked to a brookes student once, and that was at a church event.

go to the polo fields and the golf clubs tallyho.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Reply 12

It’s not my thing, but Park End on Wednesdays is most popular with Magdalen, despite the not insignificant walk.

I rarely meet any Oxford students in Oxford's clubs, I sometimes meet them in pubs, but more often than not everyone I meet in Oxford is a Brookes students. Now, am I just going to the wrong places or do Oxford students rarely go out. O_O

I was chatting to a friend at Brookes and got the impression that clubs target different nights at different universities. So, for example, a lot of Oxford students will go to Lava&Ignite (a.k.a. Park End) on a Wednesday, whilst Brooke students generally tend to go to Fuzzy Ducks at the Regal (I think) on a Wednesday. So yes, Oxford students do go out, but I think there is a conscious effort by clubs/promoters to keep the two universities separate and try to spread their profit over several nights.
Pubs-wise, lots of students hang out in their college bars a lot. I only really go to pubs if we're having a cheeky afternoon pint or a pub lunch, but I've been to The Turf, The King's Arms, White Horse, Head of the River etc. a fair few times. All ridiculously expensive though.

Can Brookes students even get into Park End? I know you have to have an Oxford student id--I've had friends have issues with the bouncers because they have visiting student ids instead of the normal ones.

The PT, Anuba, Park End, Bridge, Babylove, Kukui... also the pubs/bars that stay open late (e.g. the Half Moon and Hi-Lo). I never end up in a club before pub-close anyway... way prefer the pubs in Oxford to the clubs. I know what you mean about Brookes though - I've met a handful of Brookes students, and I'm just about to start third year.

Oxford and Brookes have different club nights that they go to, so you're not to meet many in clubs even if we do go out plenty. Pub trips are common but generally a group of friends going to their favourites: KA, the Turf, A&G, OBH. People also hang around in college bars and each others room in accommodation. We don't have some central place we're we spend time, we go where the fun is.

As possibly the only person on this forum to have studied at both Oxford and Oxford Brookes I feel I can speak authoritatively on the matter.

As has been said, some of the clubs target the universities on different nights. For example, Bridge has a Brookes night on Mondays and an Oxford night on Thursdays. This is not set in stone, as far as I know they're all just 'student nights', it's just that they're promoted to one or the other university and the students self-organise to go to one or the other.

As a crude generalisation, the Cowley Road pubs and clubs are the preserve of Brookes students while the city centre pubs and smaller clubs are dominated by Oxford students. The larger clubs in the city centre will bring in both for their various student nights, but from my experience there is far less of that for the two big Cowley Road clubs.

Oxford students' pub use is also reduced by the college bars which tend to be cheaper and full of their friends.

Oddly enough, the Purple Turtle gets a surprisingly large number of Brookes students going to it, despite being the Oxford Union's venue.

Yes they can.

Kinda off-topic, but the PT also gets a surprising number of genuine Oxford residents; I have quite a lot of friends who actually come from the city, and they were hanging round at the PT long before I ever came here.

Oh, back on-topic: the Cellar. I forgot about the Cellar.

You will find them in these clubs on these days:

Bridge Monday, Kukui Tuesday, Park End Wednesday, Bridge Thursday, Wahoo Friday, Clems Saturday (these are the Oxford student nights)
