This sounds more like a med skool interview to me lolz. FruitcakeLiz wat will u be wearing at the interview. I'm thinking about wearin a suit but not sure yet, but definitely something smart.

I've had an interview for MLA before.. basically they asked me general questions about myself.. I had just gotten back from a big trip volunteering in Africa so we chatted about that.. we spent a while on what I wanted to do later on (though ultimately this counted against me in the long run because I couldn't stay for more than my gap year and the other applicant - I got down to the last 2 - could)

Uhm.. they asked me what I knew about the job.. what I thought I would be doing.. if I had any problems handling samples and stuff.. why I wanted the job.. I'd say really read the job description and the sheet of the type of qualities they look for..

Personally my interview panel (also 3) didn't look particularly smart.. I can't seem to remember what I wore but I think I had a black skirt with white flowers.. a shirt and a black tank top.. so it looked kind of smart but I felt comfortably me too.. and I think I would have felt out of place in a suit, personally.. but I didn't see other applicants so others might have gone smarter..

Sorry to blab!!

No worries. Don't be nervous at all, i'm sure the people interviewing you will be nice, they were at mine.
I wore black trousers, a shirt, v-neck jumper and kept my coat on (i was baking!).
I got asked about myself and some questions about the importance of checking things (like samples), patient confidentiality etc. Otherwise it was just a chat really about the sort of work, hours etc.
You'll be fine! Good luck!

Fingers crossed we get the jobs!

I was contacted the next day because they did all the interviews on the same day.. but sometimes people make you wait longer.. it all depends on how soon they need people I guess and how many they interviewed and whether it is easy or hard to choose between applicants.. hope you got it

I'm still waiting :frown:

How did you get into auxiliary nursing?

Hi Twiga!

if your interested in auxillary nursing i looked on the norwich nhs website and they have several nursing auxillary jobs for which you can apply.

http://www.nnuh.nhs.uk/vacancy.asp?f=%7CNursing%7C

when i applied for nursing auxillary i had to take a basic exam followed by an interview. the exam was just about basic maths and english. i didn't go to my interview because i decided that i wouldn't have been able to fit in the shifts around my course and so couldn't work as an auxillary nurse.

good luck!

Wow thanks a lot! That's really cool! You're on my rep list now

I'm doing bank auxiliary nursing so it's kind of different.. I phone them each week and say when I can work and they say what shifts are available and then I work them.. it's perfect for me because I like to travel, so while I'm home I can work all the hours under the sun.. but then I can vanish for a month and they won't care

Tips for interviews (if you go for the jobs labrat pointed you towards) really read the person and job description.. so when they ask 'what do you think you'll be doing' you'll know. Other questions depends on what area you are looking into.. for one ward I was asked how I would deal with aggressive patients as they had many alcoholics.. I was also given a scenario of what would you do if a patient came to you and said she didn't want anyone else to know but she had passed some blood (basically even though you understand about patient confidentiality you must tell a nurse)

I didn't have any exam for either of the positions I was interview for.. generally it's 'tell us about yourself' and they may ask questions about something you have written in your application form.. they want to know if you'll be ok with the 'gross' things like handling vomit / blood etc.

Your welcome Twiga!

Anon has given some really good tips for interviews!

I have been for an MLA interview which i suppose is similar. they asked questions about why i wanted the job, confidentialty and health and safety. also they asked me some technical questions about the job but only because i had a degree in the area. Make sure you write a good application form, they are really looking for someone who fulfills the criteria they have given in the job description!

Good Luck
