Tattoos - Chavvy or classy?

Well, a lot of chav's tattoos are chavvy. But that's because they've picked a chavvy style and so it all just looks chavvy.
However, I do like tattoos. I wouldn't say punk/alternative guys/girls etc look "chavvy" when tey get a tattoo - not in the slightest. But I wouldn't ever describe tattoos as "classy". If the question was do you think tattoos are nice then yes, a lot of the time I do. Loads are really poorly done and of course I dislike them. But the well done ones can look beautiful. I have two. Do I love them? Yes, absolutely. Do I think they look classy? Not at all, but classy isn't really my look.
There are some that look extremely good, and some that look extremely trampy. I think mine looks good anyway. Its very meaningful to me, and done in a place where I can hide if I want, and show it if I want.

I think most people that get tattoos just because they think its fashionable or cool, are usually the ones that end up looking crap
I've seen more chavvy tattoos than classy ones. Everybody seems to be getting them just for jokes these days, so its lost its unique appeal for me. Now they're just bleh.
it depends on the tattoos really
lol dont get a tramp stamp lol

look at it this way ... does every chav have 1 ? yes and do gypsies have 1?? so that makes it chavy
9/10 times they looks cheap, tacky and don't really scream 'classy'...especially if they're the typical generic designs like those urban 'tramp stamps' or a famous logo or a band's name. That's not inidividual or unique. But I have seen a few that look cool and are discrete, almost hidden and hard to find which people just get for their own personal fulfillment as opposed to wanting to flaunt it to the viewers.

I mean the huge gun tattoo that Rihanna just got on her leg is absolute nonsense

It depends on what the tattoo is, a crappy little butterfly tramp stamp is of course chavvy, but there are also really artistic tattoo's too. It depends quite a lot on the person it's on too
Neither
Bit of a silly dichotomy, no tattoo is classy, but certainly all aren't chavvy. Some are really nice.

the ones that look cheap are those chinese letters or green tattoos

I have a little science tattoo and I don't think that's chavvy :emo:...

But yeah I think most of the crap you see inked into people is a bit trashy, especially if it's been done with no thought or personal meaning. Or if they're really visible.

Generally not classy. Not all of them are chavvy and some of them work on people. It also depends on whether there's any kind of sentiment attached to it (no, not like 'Trace and Kev forever' which needs removing 2 weeks later because Trace is more interested in Wayne). Something understated perhaps, and that will never cause regrets, then it's fine.

I wouldn't say either.
If the tattoo is original and has meaning to the person then those tattoos are fine by me.
Chinese letters or tribal tattoos look awful in every circumstance.

I have a little pattern on my wrist that I designed myself. Yes, it does have a star but it’s not a generic star pattern that everyone has, and I like it because I spent the time to design it, even though it’s tiny. I only wanted a small one so that it’s subtle and I can cover it with a watch if I ever need/want to, so I’m quite happy with mine.

My mother, however, has a few terrible ones. She has my dad’s name in Chinese with a cartoon heart above it (at the bottom of her back) and a cartoon angel on her shoulder- to be honest it looks like a drugged up bird. To look at her you wouldn’t expect her to have any tattoos because she’s really conscious of her appearance, but then she can be wearing a nice dress and it automatically looks cheapened by the thing on her shoulder. I guess it can be hit or miss.

The only one I've seen that hasn't made me want to vom is one of my friend's who had his dad's initials tattooed over his heart after his dad died of cancer. That was something very personal, discreet and understated - something most tattoos are not.

This. I totally agree with the 'personal, discreet and understated' bit. People go overboard - more is not better, colour does not improve the look, small is better. And following a meaningless trend (Chinese words etc) is not cool.

I'm a wimp with pain so I don't think I'll ever get one done. But two friends of mine have the closest to 'classy' that I think you'll ever get with a tattoo. One has words written on her foot in simple black curvy writing. And another has a number written on her wrist in small simple black writing. Neither are meaningless tattoos, both mean something very personal to them.

I haven't voted in the poll, because there is no 'it depends on the meaning and design of the tattoo' option.
I'd say it depends on the individual design, the placement on the body, and also how many tattoos one has altogether. Like nearly everything in life, some tattoos are bad and some are good.
i wouldn't say they're classy, but chavvy woudn't always be the right word either. i knew a guy that got a multicoloured rainbow tatto, and when his skin started peeling he had coloured skin flakes too, like children's cereal or something :teehee:
Mr Sparkles
What do you think?
Are tattoos chavvy and trampy as hell, or are they classy?

depends totaly on the design
tatoo rules:
1. do not have asian symbols tatooed on you if you ARE NOT ASIAN it look tacky and you cheepen a beautiful alphabet

2. if you want it have it, just be prepared to defend what you have done
