What's the deal with Superdry clothing?

I started sixth form a week ago and I noticed that loads of the guys there wear "Superdry" clothing. I had a look on the website to see what the big deal was and I really don't get it. For a start, it costs about £26 for a plain t-shirt with their logo on it. A pair of jeans is £60 - £100. I don't even think the clothes look that nice, they're really boring and there's no variety.

I'm not some skinflint or anything, I can understand paying a lot for a really nice, well made jacket or something... but the whole brand just seems totally overpriced.

People are always talking about them and they totally bum over anyone wearing a superdry t-shirt or hoodie or whatever. I mean, am I missing something?

good brand =]

It's the same old algorithm: expensive -> exclusive -> "cool"

There is nothing particularly interesting or special about superdry clothes. You can get far nicer clothes for half the money. You're effectively paying £20 simply for the logo. It's simply another victory of marketing over common sense.

Yeah I totally agree.

They're meant to be overpriced though, otherwise they'd lose their appeal. Same goes with other expensive brands, like Lyle and Scott, Fred Perry etc. Oh and of course Jack Wills. Imagine if Jack Wills was reasonably priced? It would stop being a sought after brand, and just become your everyday run of the mill clothes brand, like Burton.

Totally agree with this

I own some superdry hoodies... I got them in Matalan 2 for a tenner.

I don't know why it's quite so popular. I mean the clothes are nice, but I don't get why they are massively popular, I've been places where literally every guy was wearing it. Just trends I suppose. I think their stuff is OK but not awesome. Not particularly special and I don't really buy it myself. It's cheaper than A+F and Jack Wills though so maybe that's why, since it has that 'look' but not the price tag.

What's weirder is when I see middle-aged males wearing Superdry/Jack Wills/Hollister/A+F. Their clothing is aimed at teens - I would kinda hope people grow out of massive logos by the time they're in their late 30s/40s..

I bought a t-shirt for about £4 from Matalan, it says Super on it in the Superdry style, I've had a couple of people who genuinely thought it was Superdry comment on it

Mine genuinely did say Super Dry on it. I thought it was a crappy matalan own brand. :s-smilie:

It all reminds me of a recent documentary about footballers wives. One of them went into a store and thought that this dress she saw was the best thing since sliced bread: price tag: £990... She got to the counter and there was a typo on the label and it was only £99. Suddenly she thought it was horrible and put it back.

Buying Jack Wills trackie b's is no different buying matalan tracky b's and stapling 20 pound notes onto them. It's just a way of showing off how much money you have.

Just gonna throw this one out there. If I like it, and I want to pay for it, and wear it, what's the problem?

It's just lush clothes and FYI £60-£100 on a pair of jeans really isn't that much money anymore...

A+F is not aimed at teens.

The tees look nice and are good quality, love mine

This. I mean i bought a hoody and a t shirt there a while back and got some student discount on it too. Stuff there is really good quality and good value for the pricing. I didn't realise the stuff was remotely popular, i saw a shop in town and a couple of things caught my eye and they both were Superdry stuff. So yeh nice good quality stuff which looks good too imo.

It is when you can get something of as good/better quality from tk maxx for 20 quid. Some of us have more sense than money.

Who looks at branding on jeans anyway?

I like the bags, but I agree, I'd never pay that much for just a logo.

I hate the coats.

Hideously expensive for what it actually is.

£3 tees from Asda with the occasional H&M tops from Japan thrown in for style.
