Thank you for your replies. I have just tried Frank helpline...the person on the phone did not know of a yellow powder but said that some so called legal highs might look like this...that was what I figured too which is why I thought I would ask the student forum in case people here know of anything that they or their friends take that is like this.

There are various legal high forums too but I dare not post there as I know that my son vists/used to visit those.

As for asking him...that is no good...as he just lies (which is a normal part of additive behaviour I am afraid).

He still denies ever taking cocaine for example even though there is ample proof that he has done so (via what we found on him and via his Facebook chats to his friends, including photos...they used the nickmane Cheese and Mellow Yellow). The list of substances that he has documented in his diary runs to over 20 (he was so hung over the weekend that he left for uni, I don't think he realises what incriminating evidence he left behind that we only found afterwards...he is not allowed back home now till we are sure that he is clean).

"Cake" is a spoof for those who did not realise it.

Cheese is actually cannabis.

My mum calls me a drug addict because I smoke a joint at the end of everyday. I would advise you to do some reading on cannabis, from unbiased sources (eg not the daily mail). A good site for drug info is erowid.

Talk to frank people are idiots. "it could be a legal high" is a dangerous statement considering they have no idea what it is. It could also be anything else.

Lots of drugs have a yellowy tinge when impure.

Ask it on a drug forum, write nothing about the situation, simply write 'Anybody know of any drugs which are a bright-ish yellow powder?'

People there know a lot more than the people who are apparently an "authority" on drugs.

Base. I.e. speed, amphetamine - can sometimes be a yellow/white sticky powdery looking stuff.

Could be what you're describing. However it could also be something totally unrelated like another poster has listed i.e. UV rave paint stuff.

Ignore this OP, Frank are not pro's, they have a very limited, and completely biased knowledge of drugs.

It could be meth, but you cannot accurately identify a drug just from it's colour. Meth is a nasty drug though.

Do you know what drugs your son has taken previously, and how often he takes them?

You say he took 'everything going', but is this actually correct? Heroin? Crack? Methadone?

By the sounds of it he is abusing drugs, but remember there is a big difference between using drugs and abusing drugs. I'm sure my mum thinks i 'abuse' drugs, when the only substance i have ever really abused, is cannabis, she just has very limited/biased knowledge on drugs.

I wish I was just being an over-reactive mum but whilst his list does not include Heroin or methadone as far as I know it includes: weed, laughing gas, acid, ketamine, valium and then xanax (started over 1 year ago) and he could well have moved onto other benzodiazepenes, 5-MEO DIPT, DXM, Mephredone (though this one he has given up that is the only one I am confident of as he has said that he regrets doing this one), 2C-E, 2C-1, 2C-B-FLY, 2C-T-2, Dihydrocodeine, 5-MEO-DMT, speed, Mescaline, MDPV, 4-ACO-DMT, GBL, methylone, butylone, MDMA, kratom, Salvia...and these are just the ones that we know...who knows what else he got into whilst at uni.

er..

most of those are perfectly harmless.

only one I can see that's harmful is valium, and middle aged housewives has been popping those for years

Some of the newer''legal'' drugs(medicaments with drug effects) can be yellow.
I can think of Bod 14 and Slavia powder.

I can't imagine why it would be smeared all over his hands or his face, if it was a drug.

He's into his RC's i see.

Tbh that list really isn't that bad at all. I'd be most concerned about the benzodiazepines to be honest.

He seems to like his psychedelics as well. A lot of the drugs listed, have very little potential for abuse, although some i.e the diazepam (valium) do have a higher potential.

Someone could easily run up a list of drugs that long, and even longer, and still not be abusing any of the drugs.

I suppose it all come down tom how often he's doing the different drugs and if they are causing him significant negative effects. If for example, he takes most of them once in a blue moon, and others, like mdma, max once a month, then it's not really that bad.

However, if he's, for example, doing mdma every week, then that's not good at all and very unhealthy.

You say he quit uni due to the drugs? Is this a complete fact, or is it an assumption?

A lot of those drugs i have done myself, and some of them i know he wouldn't be doing regularly, like salvia for example, so just because the list is large, doesn't necessarily mean he is addicted.

I would definitely talk to him about it, but don't be angry with him, don't look down on him, just find out how often he takes the various substances, and find out how educated he is on using drugs responsibly. Tbh people on the big drug forums are usually very educated about their drugs and treat them with the utmost respect.. not all mind.

Cake isn't a real drug. People are just talking ****.

"MP David Amess MP, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Basildon, was fooled into filming an elaborate video warning against the dangers of a fictional Eastern European drug called Cake, and went as far as to ask a question about it in Parliament [1]. The drug purportedly affected an area of the brain called "Shatner's Bassoon" (altering your perception of time), can give you a bloated neck due to "massive water retention" (allegedly known in the then non-existent Czechoslovakia as "Czech Neck") and was frequently referred to as "a made-up drug" (a drug, they were told, not made from plants but made up from chemicals). Other celebrities such as Sir Bernard Ingham, Noel Edmonds and Rolf Harris were shown holding the bright-yellow cake-sized pill as they talked, with Bernard Manning telling viewers that "One kiddy on Cake cried all the water out of his body. Just imagine how his mother felt. It's a ******* disgrace" and that "…you can puke yourself to death on this stuff one girl threw up her own pelvis-bone… What a ******* disgrace". Manning, along with other participants, told the public that Cake was known on the street as "loonytoad quack", "Joss Ackland's spunky backpack", "ponce on the heath", "rustledust" or "Hattie Jacques pretentious cheese wog", and then informed anyone offered it to "chuck it back in their face and tell them to **** off"."

It was made up by a satirical spoof documentary.

Here is a list of why I don't think you should worry:

1. No one leaves drugs all over their face, especially if they haven't taken them in the last 10 minutes.

2. I am not aware of any yellow drugs

3. Drugs are only dangerous when they impede on other parts of your life. If he can take them responsibly (i.e. whilst working for a charity etc) then I think you can trust him.

With my experience of family and drugs, the more open you are about it the better it is for everybody concerned. Secrecy breeds more problems for both the user and the rest of the family. If there is an undercurrent of mistrust everybody suffers. My conclusion: tell him you're pleased he is doing well, but then tactfully ask him what it was on his face and be honest with your motivations.

It is fact that he dropped out of uni (and flunked his A levels) due to drugs...he knows and admits that...he took many of the above daily and in such high doses that when I read his posts on Drug Forums others who do the same as him advised him over and over again that he was doing too much too soon and in combination.

Now we do not talk to him re. drugs at all as only he can decide what he wants to do for himself. He knows that he has abused them and become a "fiend" (his own word that they use on drug forums) for some of them...his uni knows this too and offered him help and support...hence his re-starting at uni...only time and his actions will tell
what he does. In the meantime, all we can do is work on our relationship with him and to keep connected but not to enable him by giving him money nor to feed any rebellion by preaching re. drugs.

Daily? Jesus christ, some of the above taken daily could cause serious problems.

I don't know what to suggest then really.. if it was my son, i guess i would say something along the lines of 'i don't mind if you use drugs, but you need to understand, when abused some drugs can totally destroy your life.. ' but i guess he already knows this, if he's admitted he has a problem.

It is really surprising tbh, some of those drugs are things that are the opposite to addictive, i.e the more you do them, the less you want to do them, i couldn't imagine what must be going through the mind of someone who needs to do them every day..

Perhaps there is something psychological that is making him want to escape.. i really don't know, sorry i can't be more help :frown:

I hadn't realised this but will try to find more info on them. Do you mean "Salvia" or Slavia"?
