Which is your favourite sitcom on the list?
And which that didn't make the top ten do you think should?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sitcom/

I was personally dissapointed that Red Dwarf and Men Behaving badly didn't make the top ten.

My fave on the list is Blackadder. Totally classic comedy in my opinion, and certainly the best on the list.

Top Ten

Blackadder
Dad's Army
Fawlty Towers
One Foot in the Grave
Only Fools & Horses
Open All Hours
Porridge
The Good Life
The Vicar of Dibley
Yes Minister

Yes minister and the good life are wonderful....I've seen them so many times and still find the jokes funny (unfortunately I've overdone some blackadders and red dwarfs)

Yes minister was fine. Not my fave, but pretty good comedy, but i never thought the good life was funny.
I tried watching it, but it didn't even raise a little smile.

Yeah. Its just totally innofensive comedy, which i think is why that, rather than Father Ted, made it in the top ten, because Father Ted is funnier, but can be concidered offensive.

The good life were part of my childhood - used to watch them on betamax videos again and again on rainy days.

But I still find them funny - maybe it's because the characters remind me of people I know (tom is very like my dad and margot reminds me of one of my friends mums etc etc).

the good life needfs to have its celluloids burnt. plain and simple.

blackadder SHOULD win, but it'll obviously be only fools and horses, even though its crap.

I'm not fussed on only fools and horses...or one foot in the grave but both always quite impressed me by the way they brought real emotions and nasty things into the storylines (like when the meldrews house burnt down or their neighbour was in a car accident or when cassandra had a miscarraige in OF&H)

And of course the list is missing

Pheonix Nights
Black Books and
Spaced

but then it's a BBC poll and they're channel four comedy shows as is the Tedster

Yeah, there is that. I wasn't really a fan of any of these to be honest, but i can see why at least the first two would be there.

And thankfully the office was nowhere near the top ten.
Maybe the hype's worn down about it, and people are realising that it isn't as good as some people seemed to make out.

Red Dwarf is really special because it was based on something totally from the imagination and free from life experience. Blackadder was the best of the lot and i think the 1st series is seriously underrated.

Also think Father Ted was fantastic (May his soul R.I.P) and Coupling tickles my fancy rather a lot nowadays

So it had no basis in any sci-fi programs whatsoever then?

OK point taken - but to make sitcom from programmes like star-trek or dr. who would be difficult at times without just satirising particular facets of these programmes - the comedy was original in many ways even though it did point fun at sci-fi
