Freshers Dinner - Dress code?

Most colleges are having dinner dance events in the Fresher's week. Mine (for Pendle) says smart/casual dress - but as a dumb male I obviously have no idea of how to interpret that!

I was thinking white striped open necked shirt, black trousers, nice belt, shoes. Sound ok?

sounds similar to wat im gunna wear. i was thinking wearing some black or dark grey trousers, some shoes and a smart open neck shirt, or something close to that anyway. i think its smart dressed event however not over the top.

Least i'm on the right lines - no Tuxedo then! Hehe

lol. i actually wanted to wear some smarts jeans that i bought the other day, some brown shoes, a shirt and a really nice black suit jacket. i went out like that the other day and it actually looks really smart, however on the freshers dinner sheet it says no jeans! oops! i think i will just have to stick to my original idea.

Sounds like the Pendle one is gonna be a good night - even if it is at the cheesiest place in town!

its definatly a night im looking forward too! and yeh.... it is a cheesy place! by the way, i sent off my slip with the cheque etc for the dinner and dance, however ive heard nothing back. has anyone else recieved anything?
