Mr. Pink
LukeD, how do tutorials work in bristol btw. I think i'm a person who would benefit massively from them.

Well, I haven't actually started yet...so I'm not entirely sure!!
However, the website says that tutorials will be weekly and will be in groups of 4 - which is pretty good really.

See this link if you want more details.

Because people who apply to Oxbridge and get an offer sometimes get rejected by Bristol, some people do assume that Bristol rejected them because of their Oxbridge-ness, and not because of their quality of application (after-all, in their minds - they got into Oxbridge, and thus are way good enough for everyone else anyway).

However, the real cause of this is going to be that Bristol didn't want them as they had a good number of people that looked more promising, or the Oxbridge people could have had a really good interview at the college, but a bad one in Bristol, for example.

There will be no systematic rejection for pre-October15th applicants. Full stop.

I've heard a rumor that bristol regularly rejects applicants who apply early to uni. as they suspect that you've applied to oxbrigde. Do they actually get pissy about that or is it just a rumor, as i want to go to bristol just as much as oxford...

I applied before the Oxbridge deadline, yet didn't apply to Oxbridge. I still got a place at Bristol. It was quite funny because if I was ever asked about where else I had applied for I never told them (your not obligated to as part of the UCAS system, their not even supposed to ask). This often seemed to make the admissions tutors think I had applied to Oxbridge, quite funny really, may have been beneficial thinking about it.

It could be beneficial... I got my Bristol offer the day before I left for my Oxford interview (possibly to try and encourage me to accept them if the interview went badly?). Similarly, a friend got an offer from Durham a few days before Oxford rejected him.

This could easily all be co-incidental... still, I don't think it'll make Bristol more likely to reject you if you apply to Oxbridge. There seems to be loads of people around here with Bristol offers who were given Oxbridge interviews.

Some of us aren't quite so bitter (*is aloof*) but essentially what our geordie friend means is that Bristol is just as good as Oxbridge anyway, it just isn't organised as a collegiate system.

haha nicely put man.

I forgot who asked the question at the start but if you do get a chance to go to Oxbridge then go. It's a hell of a lot more work and work consequently takes priority but it will be worth it in the long run.

I remember being told that Stanford Uni was set up by a guy who was rejected from Harvard when he was applying. I could start my own university somewhere in the British Virgin Islands where top quality education is mixed with tropical rum punch and girls in grass skirts.....

thats a really good idea geordie. if you end up setting it up i'll be first to sign on!

i'm surprised there isn't really anything like that yet... would make billions.

Well it's my idea so don't go stealing it! lol

For a lot of courses the standard offer at Bristol is now AAA. Meaning you can't choose them as insurance. You can't blame them for wanting to make offers to the people they think will put them as firm.

My insurance had the same offer as my firm. On reflection that could of gone a bit wrong...
