The light is supposed to flash, means they are hot enough  And yes it's hot but they do less damage to your hair/makes them work better.

Yes the red light is meant to flash consistently to show they're on and yes the high temperature is what makes them so good  . However, get yourself a good heat protector spray as regular usage of ghd's can damage your hair, if you do not use a heat protector spray. Also use a hair conditioning mask once a week to keep your hair in good conditon if you will be using the ghd's often.

There are two types of ghd's; slim plate ghd's and wide plate ghd's  .
They have made the original GHDs which have the slightly thinner plates, and the Salon Stylers (for thicker hair) which have the slightly wider plates.

There are also pink GHDs which I think were supporting a charity (possibly breast cancer) but I've never seen a pair!

They can damage your hair if you don't protect your hair. The plates on the ghd's are ceramic which are meant to cause less damage to your hair than metal plate straightners.

However, the high temp. and regular usage can damage and dry out your hair, so protect your hair with a heat protector spray or serum and regularly condition it and you will be fine

ah im glad this thread is here, because I was about to start one on ghd's, I need to buy a new pair to take to uni because my mum wants to keep a pair at home, so i know the retail price is £99.99 but does anyone know where i can get a cheaper pair? I know ebay have some for about £80 (inc. postage and packaging) but I dont have the time to wait. So does anyone have any chain shops that they know are selling them or a shop in manchester?

Paul Mitchell do a really nice product called Straight works which helps as a protection aid. Expensive though, cheaper version which is still quite good is by Sunsilk
