I have seen an unsophisticated barber shop in Walton St... apparently you can have a hair cut for 6 pounds. And then there are the pricey ones on High St- somewhere around 20-25 pounds.

Cool, thanksadiddily!
Considering I just need my hair all over cut shorter rather than some fancy style, I think I'll go for the £6 one. :p:
I'll be going to Jericho in the evening- so will post the exact price once I return,

Walters of The Turl do it for under a tenner. The barber called Junior is a nice guy.
I'm afraid that I couldn't spot the hairdresser in Walton St... but I remember it being on the Somerville/Radcliffe Infirmary side of the St... apparently there is a one for 9.99 inside Covered Market

I've used the one in the covered market. They do a really good cut and it's under a tenner too, so all good! Would recommend them

Hey, does anyone know a good hairdresser, but not too expensive, in central oxford or up cowley road?

In central Oxford there is Mahogany (on Turl St and Market St and somewhere else I think).....have heard from several female friends that they are very good there and you can get student discount, which doesn't make it too expensive. I think you can book it with a junior (not a trainee tho :p: ), rather than a senior hairdresser, which makes it cheaper too. Can't remember how much it cost them though..maybe £20-25?

I go to Anne Veck on St Clement's - I got my hair highlighted for about £30 there and it's a really nice salon, they give you lots of free drinks and there are flat-screen TVs mounted on the walls next to each of the seats to keep you occupied! And they do 20% student discounts on Mondays and possibly Wednesdays too I think.
I second Anne Veck. Discount is on the Monday, they do free fringe trims if you need them and the lady who did my hair, Suzie, is the best hairdresser I've ever had. Very nice ladies.

See had I known this I might not have been so panicky about getting it done before I came back (my old hairdressers shut down) and I wouldn't now look like i'd cut my own hair with garden shears because I went to a hairdresser I didn't know GRRRRRRR
Anyone know a mens hairdresser? I'm begining to get concerned at the length of mine too...

Where's the problem? Just let it grow long enough for a ladies' hairdresser to handle, and you'll be fine.:p:
What about barbershops?

You know, like Desmond's...

I got mine cut at the barbers on the High Street right next to Queen's last term (30 second walk from Teddy Hall )- £10 with a student discount, which is pretty expensive, but done in 10 minutes. There's also a place in Turl Street, that my friend went to but his hair was butchered and they have queues of people waiting.

Hmm I was gonna recommend the place on Turl Street - they've always done a good job of the-only-male-friend-whose-hair-I-talk-about's hair!

I think some of my male friends use the barber in the covered market too.
Walter's on Turl street for guys. Never had my hair cut in Oxford though, I just let it grow and have it done up north where its sooo much cheaper.

I went to Brothers next Harvey's on the High Street- they're expensive but I had a trainee do mine which made it under £20 and she did a really good job.

I have a friend who likes the barbers in the Covered Market, he claims that whenever you go in, all the barbers stop working, turn round and say hello! This seems to be his main reason for going, but his hair is usually OK so they can't be too bad.
