I think I have made a big mistake. Today was the third day of my freshers week at Manchester Met - (I am studying Chemistry with a foundation year).
I chose to stay at home (not go into halls of residence) after being given this advice from teachers during the application process. At sixth form college, I was one of the most sociable and popular people in my year - I had lots of really good friends and enjoyed my a levels. The teacher assured me that living at home during uni and travelling in every day would not affect my ability to socialise and make friends at university. However I have been in three days for freshers events already and have not made a single friend!!! I am now really worried because everyone already seems to have made friends with lots of
the other people that are living with them (in the same halls). lots of them have been out to most of the freshers discos and parties together. I really wanted to go to at least some of them too but had nobody to go with. Even though i have only been in three days, my entire personality seems to be changing day by day as I lose more and more confidence by having nobody to talk to.
I would really really appreciate any advice especially from anyone at MMU.
Thanks Tom
