A friend missed out on Cambridge for Classics - Needed A*A*A A, instead got A*A A A, 2 more marks and he'd have gone through. :P:

Yesterday I was feeling really good about my UCAS application - had sorted my ps, got a glowing school reference and almost narrowed my uni choices for engineering (Cambridge, Edinburgh, Bath, Sheffield and Southampton) - then I got my predicted grades.
I knew my parents wouldn't be happy but the way they reacted you'd i have thought I had wrecked my chances of Cambridge completely.
I have 5 A grade AS s(Physics, DT, Chemistry, Maths and FM) and my lowest score was FM (I got 91%). I have dropped Chem and am taking
M3 as an additional maths module.
My parents thought I should have been predicted A* in FM as I got over 90% UMS but my sister said as no one got A* in FM this year they wouldn't have predicited A*. (She is an Oxbridge freaher). They think I should ask to be predicted an A*.
    Will I still get a Cambridge interview - I have 11 A* GCSE and A in FSMQ
It does seem a bit unfair because you got over 90%.

Still, if you're worried about not getting a Cambridge interview, Cambridge gets to see your AS percentages anyway, so they'll know you got over 90%.

Your predicted grades are good. That should not affect your chances for Cambridge in any form. By the way 30% of the candidates got A* in FM this year. I reckon you will have more chance of getting A* in FM then any other non Maths subjects. Good luck.
Yeah but most of those went to Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick or Imperial and many would have had very similar grades to the OP.

Therefore while more people got the A* in FM in terms of the proportion, the calibre of students was significantly higher and the scaling has sought to compensate for this. If the scaling is accurate then the OP stands no more chance of getting an A* in FM than he would in say most other subjects.

    LOL!

Of course you'll get an interview. Stop posting just to boost your ego. Who gives a ****. Cambridge's standard offer is A*AA. That's all I need to say. You've achieved pretty much exactly the same as me and i'm certain i'll get an interview.

Also, some Cambridge colleges want the A* to be in further maths. I'm just going to work my ass off in M2 and S2 as they're easy and make sure I get 95 UMS+ then I can have a bit of breathing space for M3 or FP2.
