Well, I'd just go to the head teacher (don't pussy foot around with subject teachers here, go in straight to the top) and explain how good your last exams were and how you want to apply to oxbridge. Talk about how it makes their school look better if they have oxbridge students and ask if you can have your grades made higher to achieve this. The school don't really care to be honest but if they're screwing up your future you've got to do something about it. If they don't change your grades write a letter of complaint to someone high up (either governors for private school or council/mp for state school). Get on it though, you don't want to be faffing around and then miss oxbridge acceptance date!

Guess you'll have to go to Anglia Ruskin.

    Sucks.
And what exactly is wrong with ARU?

Yes they know I'm applying to Cambridge and still remain unmoved.

Need I tell you about STEP? XD I'm starting to get specialist maths classes for it on monday, so to be honest I've not started yet :o:
Well that's pretty rubbish then. Not even for maths? Could you have a word with your teachers and let them know what's going on. Are the school not predicting anyone As? Cos if they predict some people in some subjects As but not you then I reckon you could kick up a fuss.

I've been explicitly told not to speak to subject teachers - they've had people "harassing" them in the past which is understandable I suppose. But they're being unbelievable *******s on this to be honest.

I sort of have a plan.

I am going to a private school on monday evenings to get help with my maths application - I was thinking about getting the maths guy to write a letter detailing how important these predicted grades are in regards to getting even an interview?

Then if that doesn't work, I'm going for the 'ol parents meeting with the head teacher.

Then I'll really kick up a fuss - MP, head of education services at the council, local paper - should sort 'em out. Still ridiculous that I should even think of going through all that though

I don't understand you at all, I need these predictions for uni, I don't care what the school thinks I'll get, I know I have the capability to get As if I work hard enough, I've proven it in the past with my good record and me being senior dux and all (sorry to be arrogant :o: )

And also A* doesn't exist in Scotland

Go to all your subject teachers and ask what they'd personally predict you based on classwork and exam results. If they say As, start on a big rant about how the school are predicting you Bs and might ruin your chances to get into uni. Then hopefully the teachers will put on your reference that your predictions are too low.

Your application will have your actual AS (or whatever the scottish eq is) grades on won't it? So why don't you write in your PS that you intend to work incredibly hard to get all As in your A levels (eq), regardless of what the school say? Just an idea.

Have your school said WHY they don't think you'll get As?

Were you grades you achieved last year the top grades possible?

If so, surely they have no justification for not predicting you the top grades?

Yes, as stated in my OP i got 5 A band ones which is typically above 85% in each exam. I also came top in 4 of these subjects out of 5 and I've been made senior dux. I really can't see their reasoning. It beggars belief.

I've been told be senior management not to speak to subject teachers, because in the past they've had people "harassing" them

And the senior management are being immovable on this. Their decision is final in their eyes. But I still feel I must do something, I don't want my life ruined by them

I'm applying to university this year so I'm not that familiar with the system. But is it possible to enter yourself privately? And have a reference done by your STEP teacher? If the school definitely won't predict you A's then maybe you should explain this in 2 sentences of your Personal Statement and say that your school don't predict A's; that your easily capable and aiming for 90%+ on all modules. And if you still get a rejection, then take a gap year and apply with all the grades. I know its a year wasted but you definitely sound like someone that should be going for cambridge.

I just can't understand why you aren't getting predicted the same grade this year as you got last year. It seems incredibly unfair. Just try to get your parents involved; the injustice seems fairly obvious, that you proved you were capable of getting the top grades last year, yet they won't predict them for you.

Well they say that because Advanced Highers are a one year course that they don't have enough evidence to go on

But I think I've shown in the past that I can cope, I got the award for the best standard grades (equivalent to GCSE's) and the senior dux this year, it really is ridiculous. It's not even as if I want a higher grade predicted, I just want to be predicted what I think and know I am capable of

    Maybe they're trolling you.

I would call up the chair of governers, talk to the headteacher, explain your situation, emphasise your current achievements and your grades. Personally I think you shoud've been predicted top grades, and I'm sorry you've been put into this situation.

Ok, so I've been made dux of the school, and I got AAAAA in my Scottish Highers last year, all band ones(typically above 85%).

I want to apply to Cambridge to do Maths, so yeah I kinda need top predictions to begin to compete.

But the school are saying they are only going to predict some of my Advanced Highers at Bs!!! I'm so angry, it's like an English student being predicted Bs for their A levels! How am I even supposed to get an interview with only Bs predicted? My application will just be laughed out of town

And this gets worse - one of the assistant heads said that the predictions are solely a one way thing and I have no input. I'm working my ass off already, and I think this is a complete insult. It will ruin my future, these people at the school are going to ruin my chances of a sniff at Cambridge and severely hinder my Warwick application. I'm so angry right now, what can I do to get this changed?

I know a lot of you will just say it's tough if they won't change their mind but I need better than this, is there anything I can do to help make them change their ways? I'm so worried about this, I don't want my life to be ruined, please help
Some people like Morcombey are being right pricks. Just take a gap year in my opinion. Your school seems really anal and uptight to be honest.

I don't want to take a gap year, I don't see why I should just because of the school being a load of tosspots.

I actually feel your pain, I felt like crying, when teachers are telling you you were lucky to get the Grade you did at AS..
Luckily I begged my History teacher yester to predict me an A and he has. Difference between me and you is that your obviously smarter, but just continue asking, and TRY NOT TO BE RUDE, GRIT YOUR TEETH
    Good luck
