I'm Scottish so doing AH maths if that makes a difference.

Should I be concerned I can only do the odd question?

Given that you generally only need to be able to do about 4 questions on a paper to get a grade 1 (and therefore into Cambridge), being able to do the 'odd question' is probably a good sign if you're planning on taking STEP in the Summer. Keep at it

The "about 4 questions" rule is generally considered to be out of date given the last few papers.

But "basically nowhere" is still good enough for applying. Although if you're serious, starting to study now wouldn't be a bad idea.

If you've just started out on STEP i.e. only a couple of weeks into looking at it, then being able to do any questions is good news.
You don't even need to be doing any of them yet tbh but it's good to have a grasp of it.

I didn't start preparing properly (apart from doing a couple of STEP 1 questions) until I had my offer, which was fine for me.

even if they're only STEP 1 questions, if you can be reasonably competent at them by interview, then this is probably a good sign. i wouldn't worry about 2 or 3 until January; then you've got the motivation, and enough time, to hopefully do well in STEP. tbh, if you've only just started looking at them, then this should be fine. good luck
