    hey guy's

i am having to start thinking about my a level options i have a few query's to express!

At the moment my definate's are English lit, and Geography

i then am going to choose between Biology, Physcology, and art

how do you think these would suit if i want to study english lit/ geography at either oxford or cambridge?

i know people say you should do history as a combination to English lit, the thing is i am not doing history GCSE, is this a real disadvantage for getting into oxbridge? would it be hard to take history up as a whole new A level?

They wouldn't suit cambridge at all. Art and phsycology are considered soft subjects. Do atleast one science, bio sounds good.

If you want to do English lit. I would do another essay based subject instead, but for geography I would defo. pick Biology, If you do choose art of psychology I would drop it after year 12, what are you predicated?

Art isn't generally rated by top universities (unless you're studying an art degree) I know it might seem unfair because you have to write essays etc but that's just how it is. Biology is well regarded and psychology is kind of middling but as a 4th option i would think it would be ok.
On the history front, the A level doesn't really follow on from the gcse at all because you do different topics at AS and even though at A2 I'm doing the same kind of stuff as gcse i wouldn't think having the gcse is a major advantage. Also, the exam style is totally different. You'd need to speak to your school's history department to make sure they'll let you do it but I can't see you being at a particular disadvantage not having done the gcse! If you've got any history questions just ask!
