Economics guys I am sorry to hear of your rejections, it seems extremely harsh by UCL!

Can I just ask how many of you also applied to Oxbridge, as this may be a factor?

I did. Do you really think it could be a factor though? Surely they should care only to get the best applicants - whether they also applied to Oxbridge or not.

I've heard in the past they rejected Oxbridge applicants as they considered it a "wasted" offer. This is just a rumour though, no way to verify this.

It's entirely unlikely that this would be a factor. Firstly, plenty of people apply before October 15th that aren't Oxbridge applicants and there's no way of distinguishing between the two. Secondly, universities know that the vast majority of Oxbridge applicants will get rejected (especially for economics when acceptance is something like 15%) and won't reject candidates of an excellent quality on the relatively small chance that they might choose Oxbridge instead.

Guys tbh, their system is clearly not functioning properly. 8A*s 3AS, AS: 4As and a B, they've just got it wrong. my conclusion is that they hate oxbridge applicants.
Or maybe they just didn't think you were suited to the course. You may have amazing academic grades, but so will everyone else applying for the course - that's pretty much a minimum requirement. You will need to show something on top of that in your personal statement. Somehow I think their system is functioning properly..

You think maybe they clicked the wrong button? This seems insane, people with already achieved a* in maths, and more a* to boot. Mad!

This thread makes me feel so inadequate. I'm so sorry to those who've got rejections already. :/ It's shocking that you'd be rejected so early. Early rejections usually come from applicants not meeting initial selection criteria, but with those grades, the only problem could be the personal statement?
I'm starting to think I've been too idealistic about the whole UCAS application.

OMG unlucky all the Economics applicants that got rejected. I am starting to worry now, even though I didn't apply for it, I did apply for Statistics, Economics and Finance. My GCSEs are no way as high as other ppl and thats why I thought I might give SEF a go.
These stories are similar to the one last year where a friend's friend had 11 A*s, 4 A*s Predicted (got them in the end) and still got a rejection from LSE, UCL and Cambridge! And now is doing Economics at Nottingham

theoretical physics... anyone else doing that?
I'm doing straight physics? I want to ultimately specialise in theoretical physics but I also want the chance to do practicals so I decided I'll just pick as many theoretical modules as I can on the straight physics course.

Yeah for a maths course you need to send your UMS maths scores to them. It said on the website
Ouch at your maths results! I'm in the same position as you. C3 -93 and C4 - 86.
I wouldn't mind missing the grade by a few marks or so but when it's so tantalisingly close I get frustrated.

i applied for straight econ as well and got rejected
9A*s 2As at GCSE (As in eng lit and bio)
5As at AS (maths, further maths, spanish, french, econ)
4A*s predicted A2 (maths, further maths, french, econ)
just dont really understand why i got a rejection, they wouldnt give me a reason over the phone so i've emailed them now
Unless you bummed your PS, I cannot see how they can get a better applicant than you and the few others in a similar position! This is nuts...

Rejected by UCL L100 with 3A*s and 2As prediction including A* prediction in FM.....
I'm sorry to hear that. When was your application processed? My grades are worse than yours and I haven't been rejected yet, maybe they'll reject me tomorrow?
