Theres more than just PBL and Lecture based, you've got Combined and System based aswell.

No Uni just does one of either. Everyone does a little PBL, everyone does a little a bit of lecturing.

In very general view, PBL is learning through experience, your given a scenerio and have to work out what the problem is. Lecture based is learning the background science with little clinical in the first few years.

    Lecture unis: Oxford, Cambridge,
    PBL: Pennisula, Keele

I don't think anyone can give you a very informative answer based on experience as only medical students can do that and not many have experienced more than one method!

The best one for you depends on what you're like as a person. I find that I have little motivation to learn when I'm in lectures, they bore me senseless and there's nothing pushing me to do better. When I do PBL however, I feel I should learn as much as I possibly can, for me and so that I can contribute to the group. Of course, there'll be some people who think PBL is a waste of time and much prefer lectures, each to their own.

If you think you'd work well in a group at sharing information and learning on your own to supplement that, then PBL's the way to go.
