Have you had the HEAD OF UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS stand up and say "We write the references that put you in the best light possible, within the boundaries of truth" followed with "if you aren't happy with who is writing your reference, you can request for someone else".

    That will be a school thing. Some schools will let you choose who writes your reference but others will have set procedures. I think the most common is for all subject teachers to write a paragraph or so and for these to be included into a main reference usually written by the form tutor or sometimes (year) head.

    Yeah I'd of thought that was weird. Oh well, guess some people in this thread have got it wrong. A ton of it wrong actually.
    The only thing is that schools want to get rid of you so they will write the best reference possible in order to achieve this.
