finance/football economics dissertation

Heya guys,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me their thoughts on something I'm planning to do as part of my dissertation (Uni lecturers seem not to email back during summer).

I'm looking at whether any patterns exist which determine whether football clubs are at risk of going into administration and I was trying to work out how I can use econometrics to test this. The best i could come up with is running a regression with number of uk clubs in a certain year in administration as the dependant variable and things such as % foreign owners, average revenue/total liability ratio etc as independant variables.

Just wondering whether anyone has any opinions.

Thank you

Neil

When you say "part of your dissertation", how big a part?

I think it sounds pretty good. I take it you'd include some macro variables as well. I wanted to do something related to football like you, and a person doing their PhD did something involving the efficiency of football clubs, which is pretty useful.

I ended up looking at interest rates instead...

well now that you mention it interest rates would be one of the macro variables I would use. id probably have to just use macro variables in my regression analysis and then examine individual factors qualitively. things like average debt/revenue ratios for teams probably wouldnt work just because of stellar differences between leagues.
my overall title would be something along the lines of: are uk football clubs heading towards financial disaster?

what sort of efficiency did he measure? I helped with the audit of man city this year and saw how much they valued Jo at. Lets just say significantly lower than the 18mill they paid...certainly not efficient

Hey, if you actually did this and maybe have a copy, do you think you'd be able to share it with me?
