I went on the Chelsea site today to see if there was an application form available for the foundation diploma yet. However, the foundation is now apparently being replaced in September 2011 and is run across the Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon Arts London colleges =s Firstly I was absolutely gutted as Chelsea was gonna be my first choice for foundation and it covered everything =( Second, does anyone know whats actually covered in this new CCW foundation? There's no info about any specialisms or anything on the site and its kind of confused things for my choices =s And also, does this mean that there will be three times the amount of applications to this course as there used to be 3 courses before? And are there going to be less places? I AM SO CONFUSED xD But if anyone has any info on the course at all, it would be really appreciated =)

Knowing exactly how you feel right now!
Especially after booking open day places and train tickets for Camberwell and Wimbledon..does it mean we only need to go to one open day to see what all 3 colleges will be like?
Anyone with any information, please help me too!

I'm still really gutted, was looking forward to studying in the actual Chelsea area as well! Ahhhh, well i booked an open day to Chelsea a few months ago and now, on the open day site, it says that the same presentation will be given for the foundation at the open days at each college =s

    Hello,

It’s great to hear that you are interested in the Foundation Diploma at Chelsea College of Art & Design. Our Foundation Diploma has not been cancelled, but from September 2011 it will be moving to Camberwell College of Arts to form part of a bigger and we think more exciting programme in collaboration with Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges of Art.

Chelsea has been working with Camberwell and Wimbledon for the past few years to look at ways that we can improve and enhance the education provision for our students by bringing together each college’s best talent, skills and resources. The new CCW Foundation course which will be based in a dedicated building at Camberwell College will provide students with an opportunity to try a greater range of disciplines within the areas of Art, Design and Communication (including painting, drawing, theatre design, fashion & textiles, graphics, media, illustration sculpture, 3-D & spatial and interior design). During the second stage of the programme students will specialise in a subject area of their choice and will work on developing a subject specific portfolio in preparation for degree course applications. Students will also have access to a wider range of technical facilities. This course will put you in a prime position to progress on to undergraduate study within CCW, the wider University of the Arts London and beyond.

Come along to one of our open days to find out more, you can book a place on line at the following address http://www.chelsea.arts.ac.uk/65659.htm

If anything is unclear or you have any queries please feel free to get in touch at mod edit: contact details removed, please use PMs and i’ll be happy to respond.

Thank you for your reply =) That helped a lot in terms of knowing what areas will be covered.

I just wanted to say i was in the exact position as you!! I had set my heart on going to Wimbledon as i felt this best suited my skills (textiles and design based rather than fine art). I was shocked to see they had all joined together as i heard Camberwell did not cover the same areas as Wimbledon. However seeing what they cover has made me consider it but i am still a bit weary of it.

I have been considering going to my local Uni for a foundation degree, University for the creative arts in Epsom. What i have heard it is an ok foundation and is building a good reputation but again i am unsure as what to do :/ The collaboration has confused things a lot for me

Ah same, not as keen on it as I was before although it covers graphics and illustration, which is my thing xD Looking at Loughborough's foundation as well now...
Have you been to the open day for Epsom? I haven't really heard much about it so sorry i can't be very helpful! xD Are you looking anywhere else for a foundation?

Only just found out today (by accident) when looking round Kingston Uni for Foundation Diploma that Wimbledon is not doing its own foundation anymore. I am so upset. I had my heart set on Wimbledon for soo many reasons, such as setting, atmosphere and the fact that it was different from the other london colleges and felt a bit more personal!! I was interested in costume so obviously wimbledon was the best choice (LCF do costume but dont cover the arty aspects so much such as fine art etc which i wanted to cover). If i had wanted to go to Camberwell or Chelsea or study in the Camberwell area then i would have applied there!
If this collaboration was to related to financial/economic struggles then i would have rather paid the 1000 pounds or whatever to do the course in the specific college than having this.
I feel, in a way, let down by Wimbledon and the other colleges, as this is my (and our) futures and careers that are going to be affected by this. No where else compared to Wimbledon, for me, and what i wanted to do/what it covered, and the idea of having 700 other students in one place does not reallyyy appeal to me..i wonder how much tutor time we will get? Oh well...we'll see what happens..it might actually surprise us in a good way

Same Kai, i have gone of Wimbledon as well as i just dont feel i will gain the same experience as the joint course. Although they said they have built a new building just for it i can not imagine that it is as personal with 700 students and how will you have a good relationship to develop your ideas and skills with a tutor.

Oh dont worry i just wanted to see if you have heard of it I haven't been to the open day yet but i have done some life drawing days there and i like the feel of it and its seems like a really good place, the tutors know their stuff and seem passionate but Wimbledon was the one for me

Loughborough that sounds good! i haven't looked their cause its further away and you dont get any funding so i am a bit apprehensive about moving away for foundation. I was looking at Epsom, UCA, Farnham, uca (has a better reputation than Epsom), and Wimbledon. What about you?

Laura - I know what you mean! I have no idea what the Camberwell area's like, i was just obsessed with going to Chelsea xD And yeah it's a bit concerning knowing that triple the students will apply to it now, as there's only one course now =s Hopefully it'll be alright =)

HannahJaneRose - Lol ah that sounds cool! But yeah you must be gutted...at least you know that there is a good backup option if you decide you don't like the new foundation =) Yeah i get what you mean about the funding actually, it makes more sense to stay at home for foundation really. I'm looking at my local college, Oxford Brookes maybe and Loughborough =)
Ah my friend went to an open day at farnham and loved it! He was looking at a different course but he said he generally liked the place =)

Kai..one of our art teacher told us yesterday that she went to Oxford Brookes and it was really good so that would probably be a good one for you!
Basically, went to Wimb open day today..and i feel much better about it all. They said there will be about 650-750 students but it wont feel like youre part of a massive, daunting thing..as they will put us into smaller groups. He said that if you ask any current foundation students, they would probably say there were about 150 on their course, when in fact at wimb theres about 300...but because of the way they split it, it feels smaller. He said that they want it to be friendly (and i suppose more personal) so thats good!
Its going to be taught in an old victorian grammar school, so will still have big, airy rooms which i like .
Also..i know you both dont want to do costume (know han doesnt..not sure about you kai) but if you choose that pathway its likely that youll be moved to the wimb campus..so im a bit happier if i decide to choose that.
I dont feel so concerned/worried about it now so im sure it will be fine! If you need any more info, then i can give you some more..i wrote soo many notes ha! But kai youll be told that at an open day if you go!
Maybe it actually is quite an exciting idea hehe

These review days are likely to take place on Fridays throughout February and March and will be held at the new CCW Progression Centre at Camberwell College. *You will be invited to attend on a specific date and we will aim to let you know the outcome of your portfolio review within 2 weeks of your visit to the College. Hope this helps, Laura.

    Hi,

I'm glad y'all are as confused as I am! Lucky for me, I was accepted to the CCW foundation course for fall 2011 and I'll be visiting thursday, touring the campus and speaking to representatives of the college/new course.

Let me know of any specific and important questions you feel should get answered while I'm there.

I hope all of you get to where you want to go!
