    hello everyone.
so, on friday I was given the task of writing a two side of A4 essay on the first chapter of Enduring Love by Ian McEwan and it's impact on the reader for English Literature.
This is my first essay for english lit and I feel obliged to sort of make my teacher proud of it but i'm struggling with it as I really dont have any ideas on what to write about. I've already written about the fact that we are not introduced to the main characters and all that but I'm stuck now at only three quarter of one side. I need help!

    thanks.

TBH your first essay definitely won't be your best and it'll mainly be a way of them seeing what you are like with essays so don't feel too much pressure. Make a plan about all the possibly things you could write about and go from there, and of course make sure you are explaining everything in enough detail.

If you're not doing it already, you need to analyse language and context. Really tear into the words, analyse their effect within the sentence.

Argh that novel annoyed me to no end

Off the top of my head the first chapter has:
    - introduction to characters, characterisation
    - a healthy dollop of foreshadowing created by retrospective narrative
    - talk about the tension created by the "choppy" narrative
    - initial idyllic scene and all that
