Girls wont care about Football and guys about shopping so obviously talking about either means one person may get bored --> dead end
I actually find that when i start talking to guys about football or f1 they think its weird that i know so much and the conversation dies pretty quickly

I wouldnt try to interest a girl in anything boring or geeky like computers, try talking about music, sport, films, tv.

I generally start by saying something moody and sarcastic and if they laugh i maintain the conversation.
Hobbies generally don't get brought up. More so things that irritate us, something lolous that happened or people who make us chuckle.
Laughing is always a good way to break the ice.
    Plus; TONED ABS FOR LATER.

I find it attractive if a boy likes to read and he openly admits it.
I just don't get why some people think its a waste of time or 'uncool' or whatever.
aha. I have a passive interest in reading...time to put it to good use :woo: I agree I find it attractive when a person is confident enough to share about what may be not be very popular activities.

i prefer it if they have a few hobbies that we dont share, it keeps things fresh and it's engaging to learn about something new.

with that said i'd quite like to eventually go out with someone who likes the same music, i never manage to get that -.-

I'd happily talk about most things - it's not what the hobbies are but how they approach them. If they engage me, tell me why they love the hobby, try to get me interested, talk with flair and humour, then that's awesome. If they drone on and one about the technical aspects of their hobby (stuff I can't really get into as a newbie), I'll fall asleep.

The hobbies I most enjoy talking about are ones that I share or am interested in - exotic animals, fishkeeping, music, film, computer games, books, skiing, water sports, traveling, environmentalism, activism, etc. If I can share the conversation and share my own experiences, I'm happy. I don't like to be talked at - I like to talk with someone.
Well said. And I might add that you have a lot of hobbies there :P

Someone into astrometry, physics, can play piano, and can talk about anything with me :3
:gasp: You can't be serious? I don't even know what that means!

I actually wouldn't mind speaking with someone who shares a diff academic interest to me...gives a different perspective to things.

logically I'd like them to share my hobbies. YOU HEAR THAT LADIES!? You like tarantulas!? You're in...

but urm if you mean stuff I don't personally have as a hobby then I think if they collected some sort of interesting items that would be cool, or.....gah unless I'm somewhat interested myself or haven't heard of it yet I wouldn't be that genuinely interested I don't think. Though I'd certainly participate in it.
