Swab to test for thrush- possible whilst on period?

This might sound like an odd question, but if anyone has experience of it, it would be good if you could share!

I need to have a swab to check if what I think is thrush is actually thrush, but the only time the nurse was available when I am is not until next Monday. However since I got home I realised that I start my week long break from the pill tomorrow and it's possible I'll still be bleeding on Monday. Can the nurse still do the swab or would I be better running my packets together (or even adding an extra week)?
I'd ring the clinic to check and follow their advice.

They're shut now and need to know before meant to take it in the morning. On the phone to NHS Direct now.... Ok just got off hold and they said the same thing. Oh well, it was worth a try. Will probably just take another week of pills before have my break- really need the swab so it would be silly to risk not being able to have it.
I had a swab done before whilst on my period( near the end) it was fine, my doctor said it may affect my results but they came back all clear.
